New Orleans is a great place to take pictures, they are just about everywhere you look. I last went there pre-Katrina and before that about 35 years ago. I remember music being played everywhere, on street corners, in restaurants and bars, just everywhere, even on a non-descript Sunday in April (Mardi Gras must be a zoo!). I hope that's still the case.

I would say that's still the case. I definitely heard lots of music in the quarter. The woman I sat next to on my flight back to Chicago said the energy of the city isn't what it used to be since Katrina, but that "it's getting there". I was expecting to be confronted with more run-down post-Katrina areas, but the New Orleans I encountered was in good shape and thriving.

That said, it's one of those special watery cities (like Venice), where you cross your fingers and hope they're still here 100 years from now.

That brings back memories! I won an award at work in 2011 and they sent me and my brother in law all expenses paid to Hawaii for a few days. We did it to the max!

Golf at Luana Hills, learned to surf in Waikiki, walked up and down Diamond Head, hiking in the "jungle", ocean kayaking, firing range in the shopping centre next to the hotel. They cordoned off a block of the town and took us to the Iolani Palace and we had a private concert from Train to close it out... good times...

It was a dream like holiday. Very lucky to live there!

And just for comparison's sake, here's one taken with the Helios 44-2 58mm @ f/2...

I think I'm preferring the Jupiter quite a lot now :)

Cheers :)

Yeah, the contrast and brightness seems to be a bit better with the Jupiter, but I also noticed that the shutter speed on the helios shot was about half of the jupiter one, so could be the different light conditions doing that. Bokeh is definitely different, softer overall with the helios.

It seems that I took these shots within 10 minutes of each other, so it would probably be my position in relation to the sunlight that caused any shutter speed differences.
I personally prefer the rendition from the Jupiter; even the bokeh. Both shots have been mucked around a bit with in PP but basically as taken.

Cheers :)

And now for something completely different...

This is a photo of cracked mud in a desert playa. You can read the story about it here: LINK.
