Hi, not posted in this thread before, but here goes. Please be gentle.

I love this kind of photography.

Aviation photos are ALWAYS welcome! Cracking shot. I'd heard of that observation area "on top" of the low level route. How much company did you have? Might be interesting to get there really early or a bit late so you'd still have some light. We need some helo photos. Cheers.

No, not at all. In Wales, there is a designated Low Fly Area called the Mach Loop. Basically, you climb to the top of a mountain and the planes fly through the valleys and you can look down on them. They're really close too. It is one heck of an experience.

Interesting. I'm not far from Wales so will look it up!

A great shop!
My best man used to live in Low Fell not far from here. Nice sun flare.

Oh, I guess I should "hum a few more bars" regarding this picture. It's the annual Kinetic Sculpture Race (race is meant loosely) sponsored by the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. You and your friends build something (the sculpture part) that you have have to propel yourself (that's the kinetic part, usually bikes) over a course that's about five miles or so and you ride it into the harbor at the end. Having the sculpture being able to float in the water is optional. Why you may ask? I don't know but I don't think people around here really don't care very much why. :)

I have a new lens - 28mm f/2.8 Industar 69 pancake (Russian Tessar copy), so it seemed natural to compare with the other 2 Russian lenses...

What surprised me the most was the swirly stuff going on in the background. It's a bit like the Helios 44-2 with half the focal length.
Tiny little lens; looks good on my NEX.

Cheers :)

My first job out of uni was on Team Valley. Used to drive past this twice a day. Now is my symbol of reaching home when visiting my dad from Glasgow

Team Valley, that takes me back.
I lived there from 94-96 so a while back. Maybe we met in the Big Market one night!

Another Bluebell shot, very similar to yesterdays.

I had one of those on my Fuji XE1 but it was horrible. Yours looks to be a better example.

Only because I took it apart, hacked it to get it to focus to infinity, then regreased it.
Do you find different copies of the same lens vary that much? Are you talking about a focusing issue or was there something else wrong with it?
Very much hit and miss with Russian lenses, AFB, but if you get a good one it will be extremely good.

Cheers :)

I've never had any of my lenses serviced given a number of them are older, I've often thought about it, but they all work flawlessly.

Oh, lenses from the 50s and 60s are much more simple inside and easier to work on; no focus or aperture motors to worry about :)
I wouldn't dare take a modern lens apart.

Cheers :)

I also cracked mine open to get infinity focus but optically it just wasn't that great.
Well, I thought I'd cocked it up because I forgot to shorten the stops inside, so I ordered another from Estonia (£24 incl. P&P).
In the event I realised what I'd done wrong and sorted it out. It's plenty sharp at 2.8 and seems to have swirly bokeh to boot.

When the other 69 arrives I'm going to try milling an L39 adapter down instead to get infinity focus, and keep the best one.

Cheers :)

It did look good on the XE1 though.

Yep started out at a software house on 5th Ave Business Park. 94-96 is was there... learning to drink proper... putting in the hours practicing. The Big Market. It is a sorry shadow of its former self now. Shame. Had some "interesting" nights out there and down the quayside too...

I only remember the start of the evenings out in the big market. The ends were always a bit blurry!
