DXO optics does a very nice job of noise reduction.

So is it landscapes in June? Looks like a lovely place. Where abouts is it?

Oh, landscapes would be good! Why not?! :D It's in Connecticut, near the Rhode Island border.

Yes frequently.... usually on pay day... :)

Whats the vertical line a third of the way in from the left? is it a stitched picture?

I am no expert as you know but the light seems wrong. The light seems to be shining on the front of the tree on the left, yet the sky looks like the light is coming from behind it.

Nice recovery BTW, lovely summer eve composition.

Hmmm....not sure what line you mean? Not a stitched photo, or a composite.

Here is the basic SOOC with just some contrast added (hope this doesn't get me kicked out for multiple photos a day! o_O).

lol... no dont worry about that... but bah! I know nothing about light... ha ha ha

It is interesting the way the lifted image has pulled out the detail... the shadow of the tree creates a vertical line in the water.

Also... I feel you responded with the image like you felt the need to prove you hadnt... it doesnt matter... it is all just debate and banter in here... hope I didnt make you feel like I was judging, not my intent

The light had probably slipped behind the trees camera right, but it was on that side as a sunset. I just relit the photo to bring more attention to the little boats, but you can see they are actually reflecting some of the light.

Pretty sure this has happened to me. A line appears to exist but really consists of coincidental alignments of edges within the scene. On a landscape last year the edge of a cliff, a change in sea colour, the vertical corner of a building and a plow line persuaded me to blur the whole thing and add affects like crazy until at 400% I could actually see the edges coincide and the illusion that was taking place - restart from original and crop out the eye-catching anomaly was my decision.
I cannot guarantee that is the case here but when enlarged it would seem so to me.

As to the opposing light scenario; I have come across it before close to water but maybe 'molly' will enlighten us.

I will dig out an old 'film' shot from a London' walkabout years ago I remember having odd lighting caused by reflections from an office blocks windows and low sun angle - thought I was clever at the time but no one else notice my creativity :(.

Regards Sharkey

ps:- paint affect works well here.

I do not know if anyone can see what I see?

The direct sunlight is coming from top left; as can be seen on the bench and grass res mid frame.

The light on the statue can be seen coming from front LHS.

I saw it straight away on the day:).

Fantastic shot.

Just remembered eos 5 & Agfa 50 pushed 1stop and pulled ½ stop in printing; scanner Epson Perfection flatbed at 1600 ppi.. Original print destroyed in sad circumstance:(.

How come I remember that lot?

It's funny how we can remember some shots, but not others. Does my head in. I'm looking for an old one just now and I cannot figure out where it is. The EXIF is not available to see a date :S

How you liking the X-T2? I see you have the 27mm. I'm very tempted as a light, compact lens for shooting pics of 'the wean' playing and stuff but the lack of an aperture ring bothers me. I briefly tried it at Merchant City Cameras in Glasgow but not sure how well it focusses on a moving subject. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

That's a great image :)

The 27mm is a long time wanted style of lens for me. Focus varies from copy to copy. Mine is a tad noisy but quick and stable once locked on (XT-2 probably contribute here as older cameras did not help in this regard).

Image quality is a little soft (my copy), but, I have been using it as a fixed focus lens at hyperlocal settings on the street with the XT-2 without VG. Nothing to post yet as I am a 'dork'.

Lack of aperture ring, to me makes diddly squit difference to speed etc.; just take a few seconds to twiddle the dials before getting stuck in. Second nature by the time you have screwed up a few times when practising.

Moving subjects are not its strength however; the use of a larger DOF. is probably the answer but a nippier 35mm f1.4 would be my choice. Well it was as well as the 27mm..

The zone type focussing method does not help much with close erratic movement. Not a lot does;).

Right then unless you are prepared for a bit of spray and pray then a bit longer than 27mm would be my advice for close child photography; with the compression and smaller adjustments (physically) needed that is the way I would go.

Actually as far from children as possible is my true direction:eek::mad::rolleyes:;).

Regards Sharkey

ps:- no offence to Mini Markos intended.

Cheers, I had been looking at the 27mm because it's more about not using my 16-55mm f2.8. It is more than capable for the type of informal shooting and essentially the perfect lens apart from size. I haven't ruled out the 23mm f2 as it has good AF and would be fine for snapshots and the sort of thing I need. It's a bit bigger in the sense it protrudes more than the 27mm or 18mm (too wide focal length) but still a lot smaller than the 16-55mm :)

Thanks for the feedback :)

Is there a June thread? It just occurred to me that I should have posted my photo yesterday in the not-May thread. ;)

My guess is that there is some sort of "reflector" off scene, bouncing back light, most likely a building of some sort.

Mollyc,

I think I beat you to that conclusion about 20+ years ago; still nice try:D:D.

Kind Regards. Sharkey
