An old and decaying fallen tree trunk - a microhabitat acquiring lots of floral attention at this time of year -- early-morning walk in local Municipal park this week.

Wow!! a wonderful photo ... thanks for sharing!!
Thank you! That's Alfred, the resident Great Blue Heron. He thoughtfully made a stop in a weeded area at the lake's edge, right straight across from me: a perfect photo op. I just happened to spot him out the kitchen window and of course immediately stopped what I was doing and grabbed the camera to run out to the deck for a shooting session. Alfred was most obliging as I fired away at him. In this shot he has a small fish in his mouth and was taking a few sips of water before swallowing it.

Camera was Sony A1, with 200-600mm ("the Bazooka") with 1.4x teleconverter.

A trail I've never tread. I call it "The Pine Tree Trail". I have passed by it many times while walking on the White Oak greenway in Cary, NC but have not explored it yet.
