That was difficult conditions - miserable grey weather and not very ideal location. But it is not every day you get a pair of enormous $450M planes flying that closely together. Interesting fact, they were not hand flown! They were running on autopilot - one plane had the transponder on for both of them as they flew around Sydney Harbour.
From some angles you could make it look like there were extremely close together but the Emirates A380 was flying higher up than the Qantas A380.
If I was doing that differently I would have gone to North Sydney and photographed them from there, but I didn't think I'd have enough reach with a 35mm FX format camera and 200-400mm lens, even with a 1.4x TC.
