Beautiful. I love this.

Lovely back lighting.

wow. Do you have an infinite supply? The gorgeous images from Svalbard just keep coming. (and we haven't forgotten the canadian bear series )

WOW! I love this picture, Peter!
Thank you very much for the kind remarks...much appreciated.

The soft light of the Arctic and the diversity of wildlife in such a harsh environment are the reasons I'll go back.

I'm always amazed at how nature and wildlife adapts to an environment. The shot below is an Arctic Fox. These guys have a thick white coat in winter and a mottled brown coat in summer - built-in camouflage to help with hunting and to protect them from other predators.

And like anywhere else, it's survival of the fittest - another remarkable aspect of nature. We watched the fox hunting at the base of a bird cliff with nesting Guillemots (an Arctic species of sea bird). The young Guillemot chicks were leaving the nest with a plunge into the ocean below. Every once in a while a chick would have a bad landing that appeared to cause injury. The chick, unable to fly, would swim back to shore where the fox would snatch them up for a meal.

Oh come on! You’re just making us all look bad here Peter ;)

Lake Mamie at Mammoth Lakes, California.
That's a very vibrant and saturated interpretation of the scene! Even the shadows are a vibrant blue! It's definitely unique! ;)

a little stock-styled diptych for today's submission

That's actually very polished! Should be able to flog off a few copies of that very easily if you've added it to your stock images portfolio, Patrick!

photostocking was my first thought as well :)

however, I am currently ambivalent between istock & 500px
kind of a hard deed to sell stock imagery and istock seems like a less plausible salepoint given the amount of skills & sheer amount of contributors in stock photography, for a very low final income at the end of the transaction, despite being an exclusive contributor (for select images).

I am also very reluctant to start trying to remove that lamp post. this is a huge area with gradient light which is a nightmare to fix up. maybe I'll give it a go. maybe not. Schrodingered

flog was the new verb I learned today along with the invention of one right above here.
