Thanks: I ? it!
Started to watch few videos but then there was too much to learn. Now I'm learning the camera settings when I need it for some photos, watch the video or read the manual and not viceversa because if not I'm lost. One step at the time and I'm having fun.

It's an ongoing learning process, especially in today's world with more technical stuff to learn both with the camera gear and with post-processing images afterward.

New monitor arrived. Pretty much as advertised. Colour calibrated out of the box. Spent some time figuring out how to adjust brightness. Not super intuitive and no explanations in the box and the online manual was not very helpful either. However I did find a blog that explained it clearly. A bit more screen glare than the old NEC but way less than the super glossy iMacs.

I have seen some photographers online that use Monitor Hoods

which one did you ultimately get?

ASUS PA 248QV
Only 1080x1920 but perfect for all the things I still do in Snow Leopard, and spot on for photography. Even has black level control, though it's looking like I won't have to use it at all. As I say the calibration was absolutely spot on out of the box. I really did not want anything bigger as there are definite space limitations.
