Fortunately for us, our mountain isn't on fire. The ash trees have grown and will, in a few years, block much of our view from the porch. And houses will be built on the few remaining vacant lots. We'll enjoy the view while we can.

Honestly, lovely photo. Even more so considering it was simply taken with an iPhone, versus a DSLR or something.

I am little jealous of the simplicity of the photo taking. Often I point and shoot with my iPhone 11 Pro Max, and don’t get photos like this. Albeit, I do not adjust settings and such. So...

Thanks. A little cropping and a couple of AI sliders in Luminar to enhance the colors already there… About a minute. I'm so stingy about what I keep now so I don't mind a little time to improve the keepers a little.

Well I don't personally do sky replacements, although I have experimented with them. But sometimes the creative challenge is in the editing to make the final image look like what you saw in your head. I don't really see sky replacement any different than cloning or flipping and pasting half an image to make it symmetrical, or any number of other things that photoshop can do.

Some people are purists and think everything should be done in camera, and some people enjoy the editing. Others are somewhere in the middle, and I think there is room for everyone in this thread.

(Also, I think Stephen actually agreed with your sentiment based on his comment, but was just seeing how the whole thing worked.)
Truthfully I can do much more in under a minute with an ancient version of PS Elements than I could accomplish over several hours in the darkroom. One example is panoramas. I can make a perfectly seamless panorama in about half an hour. In the old times this meant cutting and feathering photos to match, then trying to light in such a way that the copy neg did not emphasize my carefully matched seams. Skies were an absolute nightmare. I was never able to fully blend every seam and critical detail was always lost in the copy process even using my trusty 4x5.

Now I've done it. After mentioning panoramas had to post this shot. This is made up of 4 images. Stitched by hand in PS Elements. In camera panoramas have always been pretty crude, and computer apps still seem to fall a bit short. Click on it to see at full size. No I did not fake the sky, and yes as anyone who has seen it can attest, the lake is really that colour.

I agree but working in the darkroom for me was much more fun and rewarding.

Now you've made me feel wistful for summer!

This takes away the whole reason for photography for me. Where's the creative challenge or satisfaction when you can just pop in a ready made sky and hey presto! I wouldn't say the same about creating a picture by shooting the component parts oneself, though it's not something I would enjoy.
Exactly. If I can do 100% of the work in camera I’m happy. I spend long enough at a computer!

Took this with my iPhone 8 while cruising around some nice two lane roads in the horse country of north Baltimore County in Maryland.

I'm so glad to have some time off from work; I nearly forgot how much I enjoy driving, hiking, and taking pictures. Unfortunately next week it will be back to working too many hours until the end of the year. I have taken enough pictures to post to my favorite forum for a little while though. ;)
