Lowther Castle: a monument to one family’s monstrous self-regard and, IMO, one of the ugliest buildings in Cumbria. It was falling into ruin, after the family were forced to sell everything they owned… including the roof.

Now a charity has been set up to renovate the pile. Not sure why; it’s never going to be useable, because there are no plans to replace the roof…
