Hope you like butterflies, cause I got a lot of pictures of them on an outing yesterday.

Your right it’s not perfect, but it’s bloody clever when you think how quickly it’s done. To do something similar in PS would take me ages, and still not be perfect!
Absolutely! The processing power of these things is pretty astronomical when you think about it!

Btw I think your merry go round horses have escaped!
I reckon they are all probably proudly displayed in a variety of backyards around the city! Is nothing sacred these days?

True story. My technical director has an antique one in his hall way!

You won’t want them all, but I’m quite happy with the new 4/3 camera. I did have to swap lenses a few times, but I took maybe 230 shots while we were out, and I ended up with quite a few winners. Not all butterflies, as I do have kids to capture as well!

Do you use portrait mode much? Which phone did you have before (aka - did your old phone have portrait mode)? I had a 6s+ for nearly three years and upgraded to an 8+ a couple of months ago. I was planning to wait till now, but my husband wanted to upgrade too, and my son wanted an Apple watch, so we did some phone swapping with a BOGO option (my son didn't have a phone so got my husband's old one). Anyway, I wasn't expecting an upgrade until my husband said let's go do this today. I keep forgetting I have the portrait mode on my phone. I feel like I should use it more often, but honestly thought it needed a person in the frame for the algorithm to work properly.

Anyway, my point is that I probably out to try to use portrai mode a bit more often. I'm not looking to know the difference in your old vs new phone if it's better on the Max because I won't be upgrading for another two+ years again! Just wanting to know if it's worth experimenting more with it.

I have clearly not had enough coffee this morning as I know I am rambling and not writing cohesively. Sorry.

With my iPhone X I'm another who doesn't use Portrait Mode all that much since I rarely take photos of people. The image I shot the other day could have benefitted from Portrait Mode and some tinkering but I didn't even think about it at the time I was shooting the picture. The iPhone I had prior to the iPhone X was the iPhone 7+ but I can't recall now if it had Portrait Mode or not. Guess that gives you an idea of how important that feature was/is to me! LOL! I am planning on getting an iPhone XS and one of my stated reasons is the improved camera functions, so I really should be using the features already available on the device I have right now, too......

You have to be quite far away for portrait mode to work. Shame as for macro it could be nice.

Ah, I hadn't thought about that! Yes, the bokeh effect would be really nice to have when shooting macro! It makes sense that portrait mode requires being a bit further away from the subject and also that the subject be a bit separate from the background if possible. I'm going to have to experiment with my iPhone X and Portrait Mode.....

Shows how much I know about Portrait Mode (I have an iPhone SE) - I thought you were all talking about turning the phone round into an upright position rather than sideways (Landscape Mode?) ;)

Cheers :)

That’s similar to what Mrs AFB said when I said the creative masterclass I was at on Friday was about portraits!

Tracy Arm Fjord

My wife and I went on an Alaskan cruise 2 weeks ago and it was up early and find a spot at the front of the ship as we made our way in to the fjord to the glacier.

Lovely. Worth getting up for. Your lucky having a wife who’ll travel.

I'm an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego) so I went to Brickworld Lego Exposition that was being held in Novi, Michigan today. Took a lot of pictures and enjoyed the craftsmanship of People who like creating things out of Lego.

I am an AFOL too... I am teaching my daughters to love it too. I am not THIS into it though, this is a whole new level of excellence. I love to see these dioramas built by people. It is fascinating.

The old waterslide at the abandoned amusement park, with a kiddie helter-skelter back up on the left.

I think that’s one for @MacRy.
I like the hiddeness of it.

Whenever I see this view I just think of the planet of the apes.
