One of the reasons the amusement park had to close, these slippery-dips are about 5 stories high and public liability became a thing here in the mid 90's, which killed this place with stupidly high fees, because of the risks associated with going for a slide... Not that anyone had ever killed themselves on them before, but that was when people accepted responsibility for their actions...

I would love to have an hour or two in there climbing round! I bet its awesome for decaying shots...

One thing, is it slightly tilted to the left or is it my head that’s on wonky?

Have you got others from here as this looks like it was fun.
Oh yeah... it's definitely got a serious leftwards lean to it! I straightened all the others and overlooked this one for some reason.

Thanks for pointing it out, Ken, now I'm going to leave it wonky, just to mess with your equilibrium! :p

Mesa Archdpp_21024.jpg
Mesa Arch , Canyonlands N.P.

SL2 , 10-18@10 , f8@1/125 , ISO 100

Last time I was there , about 4 years back , there was this nitwit dancing around the top of the arch . Wouldn't come down . There were a bunch of folks waiting to got a shot of the arch and were getting more and more pissed . It was somewhat earlier in the A.M. and you could still get some slight reflection of light under the arch . Couple of people were making loud comments , which were ignored as the person who was the target didn't understand English . She finally came down . This time the crowd was MUCH more congenial , and everyone got the shots they wanted without any drama .

Light Painting - do not try this at home!

i-3PvWn9N-XL.jpg

I went about 3.5 hrs north of the city to a provincial park a couple weeks ago with a some buddies to photograph the windswept pine (previous image). We shot it in the early evening then waited till dark to use the tree as foreground for a Milky Way shot. Unfortunately, there was too much light pollution from a small town nearby so the Milky Way shot was a bust.

While we were there this guy comes out of the dark and asks if we want to do some light painting shots. I've never done it and nothing else was working so, why not.

This is an 8 second exposure of him spinning a piece of burning steel wool above his head. The steel wool was attached to the end of a string of blue led lights. I was quite surprised at the effect.

The immediate concern was that the sparks were bouncing off the windswept pine and that tree is an iconic feature of the park. Fortunately for all involved, the tree survived unscathed because the light painter, and possibly myself and my friends, would have been lynched by the nearby campers if it had gone wrong.

That was a stroke of luck. Usually I’ve seen it done in subways and the like. Less chance of starting a fire!
Anyway nice image.

Given your recent adventure Alex, you might be interested in the story of a US action theme park where:

"An enclosed water slide with a complete loop where customers ended up with bloody noses. A wheeled ride with no brakes that shot down a concrete-and-fiberglass track. A freshwater pool with giant waves that required lifeguards to rescue over two dozen people a day. New Jersey’s Action Park, which quickly became known as “Accident Park”, had it all. It was arguably America’s most dangerous water park."

"Action Park was finally closed in 1996. By then, the park was responsible for six fatalities, including three drownings in the Tidal Wave Pool and the death of a 27-year-old man who was electrocuted on the Kayak Experience when his boat tipped over and he came into contact with water that had a loose wire touching it."

Quoted from History.com - full story there.

And not to be outdone...this past year Hollywood released a feature (comedy - of course that leaves room for interpretation). The story is reportedly loosely based on that park.

I remember going there a couple of times with friends in ,I guess around 1980 or so . None of us had kids , and we all still thought we were immortal , so it was great fun . Remember the Tidal Wave Pool in particular . Was fun but I think I liked the salt water pool at the old Palisades Amusement Park better . Kids came along and that was that . There's a water park in the area , still . Might be in the same location , went there once with family . Compared to the old Action Park , it seemed to be pretty much 'sanitized for your protection"

Why did you do this to us!?!? Why why why..... we were happy with our X-Trans III sensors until you went and posted this...

Joking! This looks fantastic. Lovely and crisp. The 23mm lens is lovely.

Looks like a great purchase. I am falling in love with my X-H1 more and more. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Please post more examples from it.
My X-Trans IV sensor and X-Processor 4 laugh at puny older models!

Seriously, though, it's a heck of a camera. Oh, and the silver model is pure beauty. I keep picking it up to fiddle with dials and knobs because it's just plain fun to hold. And really, that's why I keep returning to Fujifilm, they make cameras I want to pick up and use. And I'm lazy, so when I can nail the shot I want in camera without having to spend lots of time in LR or C1, I'm happy! I'm a total sucker for Acros and Velvia.

The H1 is a lovely camera too. The inevitable H2 will crush it with the new sensor/processor combo, all the fancy video functionality, coupled with that IBIS.

Don’t encourage him! Mrs Kenoh has already said no more cameras this year!

There is something to be said for the camera that makes you want to pick it up and use it. It’s why I went back to mirrorless again. Easy to wield was high up on the list.

Ha ha... yes indeed, the grab factor is a strong force with Fuji. I fondle the X-H1 too but king of light box groping goes to the Leica M.... I admit to groping those far too often.

Well don’t let Mrs Kenoh catch you groping and fondling! She’ll probably sell your camera collection! Or worse!

Yeah, that GFX50R looks gorgeous!

And speaking of gorgeous things, I'd fondle the Leica M too! They're my all time favorite camera, at least in terms of design. And design is big for me, I like using beautiful objects to take photos. Given my love for black and white, I almost sold a bunch of gear a while back to buy a Leica M Monochrome. The allure of that camera is tremendous. I've always wished Fujifilm would make an X-Pro M monochrome camera. That'd be irresistible, and fit a little easier into my budget!

Yep, they are in circulation right now, but you have to ask for them at the bank. They are legal tender.

I’m afraid not. You can clearly see your son is playing minecraft on his phone, whilst your daughter is tweeting a classmate ;)

Glad to see you actually print some of your nice flower macros.

No, my son was doing his maths as you say (he actually had all his electronics taken away from him at that particular moment, but earned his phone and watch back subsequently) and my daughter was trying to figure out Word. My picture taking was cut short because she had to go use my husband's PC (the horror). And I think I've only printed 2-3 flower macros ever, and this one was one of my first from probably 2009. Printing photos in general is on my to do list to fill up some wall space, but it's such a daunting project.
