Southeastern Utah portion of the Colorado Plateau is perhaps my favorite place on the planet, if I had to choose.
Not been to the Scottish highlands then no?
I also had a similar shot of the harvest moon last night. I could either get the moon clearly, or the surroundings with a glowing orb for a moon. I’m not much of a night photographer.

Back to butterflies!

Prime lens works here as it gives some surrounding context. With a tele you may have been limited to a gray moon on a black sky. So perfect example of work with what you have. Also, getting the shot with noise beats not getting a clean shot at all every time....

Yes. I cannot leave the exposure longer as it will make the moon look like a bright orb that even post processing (without photo manipulation) won’t be able to recover. I had to settle with increased noise by adjusting exposure by almost 4 stops post process.
Feel free to ignore me here but maybe consider a crop to remove the light post on the right and the bright distractions in the bottom.
Need a bag carrier? This is beautiful
So it looks like my annual pilgrimage to Vegarse is back on this year in November. So I am planning to fly into San Francisco and then drive through Yosemite and Death Valley over three days to Vegas. Do my work thing then get the hell out of Dodge.
Any tips or suggestions on stop off point welcome. I am considering renting a motor home/small RV.
Thanks.
Thanks. I am really enjoying the new camera. I would have loved to take more time in this butterfly garden, but the kids were starting to wander off. Still ended up with a lot of good opportunities though. Now that’s what you call quality.

Yes, I do realize I'm all over the place with my photography. That's okay, I find so many things interesting. Definitely more of a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy in so many ways in my life.
Lovely.Last one from Derbyshire - this Tortoiseshell butterfly was on a bush in the holiday cottage garden.
