Yeah theres' a lot of money being spent on CGI space battles, CGI explosions, CGI cars jumping from planes to buildings, CGI giant sharks, etc. etc. etc. I know the stop motion giant apes and dinosaurs, like the mechanical shark in the first Jaws movie, have been greatly overtaken by other technologies, but there's a charm to the old school stuff. The willful suspension of disbelief that they required of the audience, and all that.OMG!!! You WIN MacRumors for the week!!! I remember the hysterical movies from the, what, 50's? The HUGE lizards, the huge ants, and grasshoppers and all of it... So hysterical. Especially the lizards. Ray Harryhausen was a genius and very creative, and made some of the most hysterical movies after technology advanced.
I mean, he really freaked a whole lot of people the heck out, and I'm sure enjoyed every minute of it, but now? Perspective shots of bugs and lizards? We are so over that. We seem to demand guns and blood and gore and body parts... And someone made a movie with quicksand, and people bled in the quicksand, and it made me almost physically sick when I watched it. So obviously fake, and yet so absolutely gross, and No CGI At All! Wow...
And it's Friday and I'm rambling. Happy Labor Day Eve!
Give me a good old school samurai movie with violence that is swift but not gory and I'm happy.
Have a great long weekend!
