To polarize or not to polarize!

I bought this handy polarized filter mount for my iPhone 16 pro max so I can finally start using my polarizing filter when taking photos. Usually I would hold it in front of the camera by hand, it’s difficult and cumbersome. Polarizing filters are great and easy to use. I’ll provide more samples later. The mount works great and fits with most cases, just remove the rubber grommet from the lens window. Otherwise leave it on for use without a case.

what polarized filter do you recommend?

Well I suppose it will depend on the quality you want & what you are willing to pay. I have several that I use with my Sony camera and lenses, I bought step up rings (67mm to 77mm) to fit the adapter I bought for the iPhone as that is a much cheaper option instead of buying another smaller filter. I prefer the polarized filters with a good multi coating. The quality & size of the filter will make the price go up significantly. So buy one for your largest lens and use step rings to be able to use it on other lenses. But since it’s for an iPhone, (if that’s what you’re planning to use it for), Urth makes great filters. Just buy the correct size.

I use the pro master digital HGX 77mm and it’s professional grade and it set me back $184! But I do a lot of photography and use a lot of high-end equipment so I kind of want the best that I can get. Probably a little overkill for an iPhone but I really like it and I like the multi coatings on it. you can get cheap polarizing filters that are just plain glass with no anti-reflective coating on them for $30 from Best Buy.

Tiffen and Hoya have been around for a very long time and they make good filters. The Amazon link for the Urth filter is a good choice. I have one of their infrared filter. It’s good quality.

This is just like the concept of polarized sunglasses, no? I have strangely been getting served ads for the Tiffen one and i like the idea of pairing it with the cheap amazon basics lens to try and reduce glare on my phone.

Yes in a way. You’ll have to rotate the filter until you get the desired polarized effect of the sky, window, water etc. most of the time the filter works best at 45° angles of the subject.

Playing with my polarizing filter today. Nothing fancy as I was at work and stopped on the roadside to snap a few. I love using polarized filters on my camera gear. Now especially on the iPhone. Not sure why I put off buying a MagSafe filter holder for my iPhone for so long… naturally polarized blue skies without faking it in Lightroom. Natural polarized skies do not put halos around objects and trees.
Huge difference in image quality & color fidelity.

These look amazing. Which magsafe filter holder did you order?

Thanks… the polar rising filter really helps a lot with clarity. Like I said, I just can’t believe I waited so long to get the holder for the phone. this is the one I got off of Amazon that works with my 16 Pro Max. It has a rubber coated back where the magnets are and a rubber Gromit around the camera window to protect the phone if you use it without a case. However, that little rubber grommet comes off to allow it to work with most cases. Here’s the Amazon link. The filter thread is 67 mm but I have a 77 mm filter so I used a step up ring from 67 to 77 mm in order to put a larger filter on.
