My "Base model" Trek 1.1
Started cycling last summer, can't get enough of it now. Did a few mild upgrades because I like tinkering with it, but I still realize it's a base model. (Michelin Pro4 tires, Topeak stem iPhone mount, comfy seat with the cutout for male parts)
Honestly, still not convinced that spending thousands of dollars on a bike will make me any better of a rider though. Having my aluminum bike perfectly fitted, and getting my legs strong seems to be working better than any part upgrades so far!
At what point does a carbon bike with ultralight components actually start to make a difference?
When you're racing criteriums and road races, and every second counts.
Or just like having nice things,
A $700-1500 bike gets you 90% of the road bike benefit of a $10,000 superbike. All the extra only gets you incrementally there.
It rides smoother and more domfortable, but Im no faster on my $6000 bike than I am on my $700 bike, but it sure looks bling bling.
