I drove an M6 at the BMW Performance center in Spartenburg for 2 days (as well as the M5). For a 2-ton car it is really pretty impressive and definitely not boring. Best seats I've ever driven in. But I have not driven the non-M version, so I can't speak for the 650i.

I don't think you can really compare M cars to their non M counterparts. They really are a different class of car. :D

I've driven 4000lb 600hp cars before. Sure, they were fast, but nothing can really beat a lightweight car with power that you can easily throw around. As nimble as a car manufacturer may claim their car to be, nothing can beat the feeling of a car that weighs 1,200+lbs less.

Really? I've had FOUR different cars rear ended, and THREE were parked at the time. Don't worry. It'll happen to you. That 1200 pounds ain't gonna protect ya.

I don't think that's a good reason to buy a truck or an SUV. I'd rather focus on the more positive things. Like how much nicer smaller and lower cars are to drive. If I'll die because of my small-mid sized cars one day, so be it. You enjoy driving your boat.

Then you need to:
1) Spend more time looking at your rear view mirror.
2) Give yourself 1-2 cars of distance between you and the car in front of you when stopped for when you do see an SUV tumbling out of control because they can not stop in time, you will have the space to move out of their way.
3) Park in strategic areas were people can not possibly hit you.

Been there, done that. I have successfully avoided being rear ended a number of times because I am always alert of my surroundings. Last time this happened to me was on the highway. Of course, some guy in his SUV couldn't stop in time and he was plowing straight towards me. I moved my car forward and to the side, and when he finally came to a stop, I was completely out of his way.

If I was this paranoid about getting into an accident, guess what. A plane can fall from anywhere. I might as well start looking for a house in a no fly zone...

And let me tell you a little story..
Buddy of mine was doing 40-45 in Porsche 944. A guy in a full size Mitsubishi Montero decided to run a stop sign. My friend hit the Montero right on the axle in such an angle that it caused it to flip over. There was a little girl in the truck that flew out of the Montero and she had to be airlifted to the hospital. My buddy and his 70yr old father simply walked right out of the Porsche while the people were kicking and screaming in their flipped SUV. So much for safety.

I thought that would be understood but, I understand why you corrected it.

Really more of the reason as to why I said it, is I just find it ridiculous that parents buy their kids such nice cars, and most of the time the kids go and total it, not because they can't drive but because they are trying to push the performance of their cars, and use their "performance driving training" in places that it just makes no sense. For example a kid at my school, totaled his brand new Audi S5. I live in a VERY affluent area, and I just find it ridiculous.

My rant is over. I am sorry that I didn't read the entire story, but I still find it ridiculous. My $.02.

anything to back this up? why are teens always the focal point of bad driving? that's what it seems like to me.

I'm not trying to rant on teens, but the statistics (and more importantly, insurance industry actuarials) bear it out: the least safe group of drivers are males under 25.

But just because a teen gets a nice bimmer doesn't make him unsafe or irresponsible. Teens driving beaters are a just as much a problem too. I do not side with prodigee on his rants against minicrazy592 for getting a bimmer at 17.

Either your luck really sucks or you got some bad karma going on. I bought my first car in 1972 and I've never been rear ended at any appreciable speed. Stay away from Las Vegas.

Having run and raced both light and heavy vehicles, I do have to say that the lighter ones do tend to be a bit more fun because it seems to be a lot easier to get neutral steering with high skidpad on a lighter vehicle. I've done a lot of suspension work on my truck to get over .9g skidpad... that I go through R-compound tires waaaay faster on my 4000lb+ truck. At $350US/tire it hurts, lol.

Umm...lack of experience? LOL

It's not the lack of experience, rather the lack of responsibility in most cases.

For me, I am going on 19 and here's my car. Gonna be the first winter with the Prius...but we'll see how it goes. Roughly 6 months old and about 8K miles...its no speed demon, but it keeps up, get good gas mileage, and gets me to class and work.

EDIT: It needs a car wash, lol.

Driven on I-564 in front of the Naval Base in Norfolk any? Happens every freakin day, several times a day. It is unavoidable. Plus, if you read my post, three cars were parked at the time. That is completely unavoidable.

LOL Yeah, stay out of Virginia. The absolute worst drivers in history. And yeah, bad luck.

No, NC has the worst by far (Except NJ, they have the #1 worst). Worst drivers and worst city cops. Trust me, I got sideswiped by someone making an illegal left on red (thru a green light on the oncoming traffic's road) whilst i was making a legal right on red and got hit on the left, and it was my fault somehow.
Then about 5 months later, I get passed on the right thru a intersection and hit on the right side. My whole front end was completely moved by about three inches and I had headlight issues after that. The other car got a dent in their door. No scratches, no nothing on them. My little sister (5 at the time) was in the car with me. Lady started yelling at me that she was gonna sue and all that. Cops came, guess who got the ticket? Me. 1999 Ford Escort was my car. Not sure the first, but I know it was a 80's either Olds or Buick. 2nd accident was a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. Bad luck here with the Local City Cops. Sherrifs are great though. And NC State Troopers? Ever seen that movie Super Troopers? Thats how it is here.

When I was active duty Navy a few years ago, I used to drive the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel twice a day to and from the base. The bridge over the water is only two lanes, with a small turn off on the side for breakdowns. I got passed by some freak on that lane one morning. I couldn't believe how stupid that was. Passing someone on the shoulder on a bridge. Over water. Stupid.

No, but I live in Miami. People from 3rd world countries come here and get their licenses for $15. Bad enough. ;)

And guys, I've drive between Miami and NYC almost 5 times. Trust me, nothing is as bad as it is down here. :(

You forgot to paint your hood!
Seriously, I will never understand that. I am going to paint the adjustable carbon fiber wing that I have for the RX-7. Color coded body parts FTW!
