Actually I am probably wrong. I thought that the Corolla S was 200hp as well... It is however approx the same weight, and does carry the same tire width of 205/55. Apparently its 132hp...

Oops...

Either way, give me the classics vs this new stuff that is overly complicated, and much much too tall.

----------

Newer cars are not getting any lighter though. Even the lightest BMW 1 Series is ~ 400 pounds heavier than my 190, which itself is heavier than the e30 M by about 130 pounds.

Blame it on US regs requiring stringent safety for non-buckled in passengers....which really is silly...among other things that bother me.

Though I think some of the older cars can give a good can of whoop-ass on some of the new ones. The Sprinter Trueno has become quite a popular car over the years and I am yet to hear about one that breaks down on a regular basis.

Note I pointed out the Trueno because you said Corolla ;)

In addition to my earlier post, this is my 1986 Mercedes 190e 2.3-16 .

Fantastic looking car, one of the true great Mercedes of the last few years.

My 2 cents on this Classic vs Modern.

I bought my car to please me, not to make a statement or show off, or impress other people. Just pure to please my inner child, when driving this I'm transformed from a 63 year old to an 20 year old.

This is my 2011 VW Golf taken at the local fishing harbour five miles away. Great little car with excellent performance and good economy, delighted with it.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your Golf! I got my 2011 4-door at the end of June. I love it.

Just picked up my 4-door tdi today! Coming out of an R32, its a big difference, but I'm happy to be back in a manual and having 50mpg on the highway saves a lot of money!

Mine's a manual, but I'd actually prefer the DSG box. My Mum has DSG on hers and I love it, very smooth and effortless - I'll certainly go for DSG/Paddles in my next Golf.

I find the TSi has a greatbalance of performance and economy, I still find it hard to believe I'm driving a 1.4litre engine (albeit turbo-charged) as it performs way better than my previous 2litre car.

The dsg has always been more trouble for me then it was worth, but some people swear by it. We don't get the 1.4t here in the states, but I imagine it has some spunk if its anything like the 2.0t!

It certainly has, my last three cars have all been 2 - 2.3 litre engines, and this little engine out-performs all three of them. I have to disagree with you about the DSG however, I know a number of people with them and all have been trouble-free and their owners love them.

I'll be putting my name on the list for a 2012/13 Mazda Miata if it gets the new SkyActiv engine.

Still driving the same Audi A4 since April but I added Xenon Headlights, LED strips, and on the inside, Kenwood touchscreen Head Unit with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and GPS!

What sucks is that I just had the car washed and few days ago and it rains!

'98 GT (last year of the body style), black/black leather, 5 speed, Mach 460 audio, 17" wheel option, and even the hard to find optional 3.27s out back. Totally loaded car, two previous owners, VIN tags on every body panel and factory black paint. Completely unmolested, everything down to the battery is Motorcraft under the hood.

So many diverse cars here, so great to see!

This is my 'work' car, the one that I use as a daily driver.

And this is my weekend car, used to be my daily driver but I just couldn't part with it.
