Thanks for the feedback! I have heard good things about that lens and I'm thinking of investing in it. As well as an updated telephoto lens (I still use the kit lens that came with my old D80).

Go for the fixed lens first. A better telephoto lens is all well and good, but to get a remarkably faster lens than your current one, you'll have to spend a lot.

I have a 50mm 1.8 Minolta lens, which stays on my camera almost exclusively, the only time I put the telephoto on is if I'm going to a baseball game or something where I'm getting great light. In fact, my 50mm feels more like a portrait lens, and I'm considering a 35mm lens as well. Don't be scared of going with a used lens too, especially fixed lenses.

Sorry for the hijack...

Because I also drive it pretty hard on backroads, in the event that I flip it. Ill be safe?

Not sure about that. Bars in street driven cars are a pretty real safety hazard, hope you have good padding where your head and passengers heads could contact. You really should have a helmet and a 5 point harness.

No amount of rollbar padding will help in a rollover, where the biggest danger to non-helmeted heads will be the rollbar itself. Putting one in a street car is not good judgement. The only exception is what I've seen on Porsche 911s where a half cage is used in the back and the rear seats are removed.

My wife works in trauma and can you all about spilled brains coming in from country roads.

Here are some more pics from Malibu/Snake Canyon!! I tried to take some advice from my last post about not taking pics in the shade as much and focusing in more on my target:

Nice 335is bro  I've got an '07 335xi - what made you decide to get it over the M3? Do you have a flash/chip in it?

If I had to hazard a guess, the M3 costs a lot more? :p

Not really, I'm pretty sure his old man shelled out around $55k for that 335.

----------

Why do you have a bar in a high-mid 12 second car at best?

563 rwhp even in that boat should be doing better than mid-12s, with a 10" tire it wouldn't surprise me if he was knocking on the door of the limit to run at the track without a bar/cage.

Almost 600 to the wheels surely had better provide better than high 12s.

Well, I built this car to be something I can drive every day when the weather is nice, I don't want it to be some stupid track queen. If you look a little more closely, you can tell that my roll cage doesn't come anywhere near your head. There is no danger of me smacking my head off it.

Look at my pic a little better, the rollbars don't come anywhere near your head, they're about stomach level next to the seat, the cage is somewhat like you see in a 911. But I still have rear seats ( good luck gettin in tho! )

The roll cage, as some people have failed to notice, is almost like a half cage, the bars are nowhere near your head.

And yes, I run really low 12's in its current state, but the car isn't setup for the track, its setup for the street. If I actually put decent slicks on it. I might actually be able to do better, the few times I"ve been to the strip, I just spin the whole way down the strip.

And yeah, most strips will make you go cage if your under 12.

I'm thinking Dinan Stage 2. And I honestly like the look of the LCI E92 better than the M3, plus a new M3 is coming soon - the 335is is a limited production car.
I'm also 19. I paid for the car with money I made (yes, I obviously wouldn't have been able to afford the car if my parents weren't paying for my housing and university, but they love me and in their eyes I deserved it - so why not take it, right? haha - I didn't want to push for more than what I was being offered).

It's not that much more - but you would have no options and as I said above, I really didn't want to push.

Beautiful car :D

Confused though. When you say paid, you mean you paid the 50k out of your pocket in full or you made/making the payment monthly etc.

Down payment and lease payments. Much easier to lease than have to deal with the car after warranty when I'm truly on my own and the glass on the mirror costs $750 to fix haha.

5 point roll bars are required at 11.49 and below, roll cages aren't required until 9.99 and below.

If the bar passes no where near your head like you said it wouldn't be track legal anyway. Seems pointless

The pikes peak example they had harnesses, helmets, and a lot more of a support structure. No where near a street situation.

I'm around the same age too, and paid for my car with cash. I think I should have done what you did and just leased an M3 or something. Maintaining the car doesn't cost that much, especially if you do a lot of stuff on your own (oil changes, etc), but my factory warranty just ran out (bought the car certified pre-owned).

If it's a lease, just put a JB4 or something in it and take it out every time you have service. It's a lot cheaper (and way more reversible) than a flash - I'm not sure how happy BMW would be with even a Dinan flash (though it's sold at a lot of BMW dealers, I don't think it's officially endorsed by BMW North America). And you can sell it when your lease is done. The tune goes a long way for the N54 engine, but it's less necessary for the 335is/1M because they're already a bit above stock power.

Dinan has been an authorized tuner for BMW for some years now. They weren't always, but are now.

I believe they just match the factory warranty if you buy their product but have relationships with many BMW dealers. I don't think BMW NA would be chill with a flash on a lease in any case. I don't think Dinan has a relationship with BMW itself, just a lot of individual dealerships.

The consensus I'm getting from a quick Google search is that a lot of dealers will flash your lease if you want, and since you turn your car back into the dealership instead of BMW corporate headquarters, it's fine.

Dinan works with dealers if an issue arises that was caused by a dinan product.

Id stray away from the piggybacks and other aftermarket tunes though. The dinan and stock tunes will drop off boost near redline to help keep the turbos from overheating and cracking. Most aftermarket software does not do this and unless you have specialized tools (i.e. Bavarian tech tool) the car will throw silent codes that can be seen by the isid when the car is hooked up at the dealer. I know some of the tuners were working on ways to get around this but then BMW figures out another way to tell.

Just looked at the pic of the roll bar in the marauder. I can very clearly see the main hoop going up to the roof right behind the seats as desired. Huge risk to smacking your head off of it in an accident.

Sorry for the horrible quality of these pictures, these come from my 2005 Windows Mobile phone lol, I just never take pictures of it.

Basic 2003 Mexuary Maurder, bought it brand new.

Oh yeah....if you can tell my the state of my engine bay.....and the fact that I have a rollcage.....563whp@6200rpm and 512ftlbs@3200rpm

If I give it the wide open it throttle at anything under 80MPH, the ass end starts sliding out ;)

Silly Europeans, Torque is for Americans! I will admit, I get about 11mpg. But thats ok, I'll never drive a tiny little ***** car ;)

That's a bad-ass car but don't fool yourself. Almost any respectable European sports sedan will smoke your heavy car on the track. With minor mods give you a run on a 1/4 mile too, all with a nicer interior! Don't get me wrong, I love your car, but respect where respect is due.
