Few pics of my '13 Jetta and the my wife's '12 Beetle. My wife is out of town visiting family in Japan so a couple weeks ago I threw a couple coats of wax on the Beetle and it's been staying warm and dry since (a bit dusty now though) and my car got a wash and two coats of wax today:

Wow, that looks awesome! We have some trails here that that would just fit on. What's ground clearance like?

Depends on how I have it set up and what tires I have on it. When driving it as my daily driver I lower it and put the street tires on it and I like it low, maybe 6 inches in the center.

When wheelin and with wheelin tires then I have about 14 inches of clearance in the center.

hah, what do you mean daily driver? Like into the office in the city ;)?

We have a small farm and the best I could wrangle without my wife leaving me is a Kioti 35hp diesel tractor loader backhoe, which just saved me with this crazy blizzard. I think if I told her we needed a sxs she'd finally leave for good!

That's exactly what I mean. Drive it to work, drive it to the grocery store, drive it to the post office, drive it to Wal-Mart, take the kid to football practice in it. I have even driven it on the highway. It will run 74 MPH.

I have made some changes since that pic. Added doors, top and back window. Put in heated seats and a regular heater. Winter project is a stereo.

Nice beetle :)

I really like the new VW's. I think they've really done a good job with the new beetle. I've owned about 7 VW's over the years, from a 67 beetle, a 62 round window, a 67 Karmann Ghia Convertible up to a 78 Scirocco and a 84 Rabbit GTI. I like their new quality feel too, I think a Golf R could be my next vehicle.

so cool!

Did you have to go through a full inspection/composite vehicle reg? What state are you in (assuming usa)

Yes, full inspection. There is a check sheet of everything you need to be street legal. I'm in Michigan. I have made over 20 of these street legal for customers.

Take 75 north till it ends. That's me. Lived in Sault Sainte Marie for a bunch of years. Just moved 12 miles out of Sault Sainte Marie. I can see Canada out my window.

If I have to go back to the states next year it'll run my Jeep up there see if my 33's are big enough for the north.

Plenty big enough for most everything. The park on Drummond Island would challenge you though. The new ORV Route system we laid down on the island for full size rigs is kick ass though.

You know, I live in CT, and my son and I ride quads, and I raced woods racing for a number of years. I can't tell you how hard it is to find a place to ride. I envy you with your off road parks and wilderness!

Nice Jeep.

The only thing not legal about mine is lighting. Have to shine and reflect yellow to the front and sides in the front and shine and reflect red to the rear and sides in the back. Other than that, it's road legal, plated and insured here.

Frame height is 1/4 inch below the limit for it's GVW.

No, that's a pointless law. You can put lights anywhere you want. They just have a statute for how they are aimed. If they are high, they need to be aimed so as to not blind other drivers.

Kind of goes along with plow trucks. Most do not use their truck headlights once the plow goes on, the plow blocks them. So they have higher mounted lights.

We have bumper and frame height laws based on GVW. I always thought it was strange that we don't have wheel coverage laws like other states. We have to have our trailer tires covered, but not vehicle tires. And no mud flap laws.

I was reading about the change in Peterson's. The laws seem to keep the headlights low enough that much over three inches would make them illegal it think 54 inches was the max height and 44 was standard. I had an 87 K20 with 35's it's lights were higher than 44"

Your Jeep/buggy looks to be on 42's or 44's that's why I asked.
