A while back there were rumours that Apple was planning to open a store in the recently built Victoria Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I was in it today and a suspiciously "applelike" grey concealing wall has been placed on the front of the unit which was rumoured to be earmarked for Apple Store Belfast. Hopefully that means that I won't have long to wait.

I really hope it turns out to be an Apple store :p Might actually give me a reason to visit that hugely disappointing Victoria Square...

I have been back a few times for a week or so through the 90s and the first thing that struck me was the ability to take the bus from the airport to the bus depot opposite the Crown - THROUGH the city centre and the barriers!!

I was gobsmacked - but that was about '93 or so , I suppose people are blase about that now, but at the time I was shocked!

You wouldn't recognise the place...

I was speaking to a person in the iphone queue last week, who went for an interview for a position in the new store. They were advised at interview stage that the store was due to open either towards the end of August or at latest the beginning of September. So we shouldn't have too long to wait now.

I had a look through a gap in the hoardings yesterday and could clearly see the Apple styling (their typeface was in evidence) around the walls. To my eyes it looked as if the work was nearing completion and that the opening could take place within the next week or so. I suppose they could try to tie the opening with the start of the new term at University- ie late this month. I'll try and see if I can get a photo of the unit later on today.

Where's the rather large "APPLE" symbol that was on the wall in earlier photographs? ..

It was covered by a large black box as seen on some photos on the web.

@PM smith: Waiting for your photos, I will try to take some on saturday if I get the chance to.

There's a large projecting square above the doorway which I presume will be the place for the Apple logo, or rather it's covering the Apple logo. The gap in the doorway was too narrow for me to take any good photos, but I had a look through and (from the narrow angle of view) it looked nearly ready as far as fittings go. No stock in evidence however. I still think things will be up and running in a week or so.

I'm so excited!

So excited that I actually resubscribed to macrumors just to post in this thread :) I was a member way back when, with my 12in G4 Powerbook. When I sold that my account must have been deleted for inactivity, and I'm ashamed to say I've been 2.5yrs with my MBP, with no macrumors account!

Back into the fold :) Hope to see lots of you guys there on Saturday morning; I'll be heading down around 7am hopefully, get my space in the queue and enjoy the craic!

andy.
