5x zoom 3s standard night mode shot
wondered the same as well...What happened to the OP in this thread? She was so passionate about Apple and her account looks like it was suspended. Anyone know what happened?
As I love photography, I make a point of changing devices every year. And every year, I notice the small difference between the generations. I didn't like the iPhone 14 Pro Max generation, because I found Apple's philosophy strange in the camera settings. The iPhone 14 Pro Max generated photos with excessive contrast and with aggressive HDR and this was significantly improved in iPhone's 15. And the 120mm (5x) lens is the best lens in years, especially in Portrait Mode! Those of you who had the 14 Pro Max, do you find the 15 Pro Max enough of a jump to warrant the upgrade?

I'm sure you won't regret it. Remembering that the change of focus in Portrait Mode can be done with the iPhone 14 Pro Max as well.I've just thrown caution to the wind and ordered myself a 15 Pro Max. I want a reliable camera with a decent enough zoom. I've also noticed that focus and bokeh can be changed after the picture has been taken, that seems like a great feature. Astrophotography interests me so I'm going to dabble with that for sure.
Sorry I meant the tap to refocus after the picture has been taken. I believe that's iPhone 15 exclusive.I'm sure you won't regret it. Remembering that the change of focus in Portrait Mode can be done with the iPhone 14 Pro Max as well.
The 120mm lens is perfect for Portrait Mode photos.
Negative. This is a feature of iOS 17. Before I bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I used this feature on my old iPhone 14 Pro Max. I even got my wife's iPhone 14 Pro Max right now and I'm changing the focus of the photo in Portrait Mode after the photo was taken.Sorry I meant the tap to refocus after the picture has been taken. Yes, the 15 Pro Max is a fantastic iPhone with a two times better camera quality over the 14 Pro Max, especially for Astro photography and the night sky using night mode. The 5X telephoto in portrait mode is also quite fantastic. Just taking mine that the 5X camera has a minimum focus distance of close to 4 1/2 to 5 feet. If you’re closer than that, then the 1X camera will take over and digitally zoom in to match the view of the 5X camera. Sometimes that will throw you off and you’ll think that they picture quality sucks because the 1X did the job instead of the 5x if you’re too close, so keep that in mind. Putting your iPhone on a tripod to do night sky photography with the night mode is awesome. Apple got rid of the star trails that you normally see on the 14 Pro Max and earlier versions of the iPhone. I have a lot of experience with the iPhone camera, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.I've just thrown caution to the wind and ordered myself a 15 Pro Max. Oh! We were really talking about different things! This function you mentioned is exclusive to the iPhone 15 line itself. I'm sorry for the confusion. It's iPhone 15 Pro only by looks of it, maybe we are talking about separate things? I mean being able to take an ordinary photo and then change it afterwards into portrait. That's a feature of the 15.
How to turn regular photos into Portrait mode photos on an iPhone 15
Standard photo mode? Portrait mode? Why not have both?www.theverge.com
We really have to be attentive, because there are moments, I believe it is because of the focal length or lighting, that the iPhone selects the 1x camera instead of the 5x camera, leaving a horrible photo. At the time of the launch of this iPhone, this happened more often. Apple must have corrected and improved this "defect".Yes, the 15 Pro Max is a fantastic iPhone with a two times better camera quality over the 14 Pro Max, especially for Astro photography and the night sky using night mode. I was getting confused with the functions, so don't worry. It's an interesting feature tho.Oh! We were really talking about different things! This function you mentioned is exclusive to the iPhone 15 line itself. I'm sorry for the confusion.
Yeah, pretty much. But like I said, if you’re not far enough away from your subject, with the 5X camera, the phone will switch over to the 1X camera because it will not be able to focus the 5X as it os too close to the subject. Your other statement is correct. Also, if it’s too dark to use the 5X camera, then the iPhone will switch over to the main camera because of it’s faster, F ratio and digitally zoom in to match the 5X. Same goes with the macro option. If you have that turned on, and you get too close, the main camera will switch to the ultra wide. I have mine turned off to where I can change it whenever it’s necessary or I use a third-party app to hard select the lenses or cameras that I want to use without the iPhone changing on me.We really have to be attentive, because there are moments, I believe it is because of the focal length or lighting, that the iPhone selects the 1x camera instead of the 5x camera, leaving a horrible photo. So fresh and clean
steady hand and no movement goes a long way. especially in low light. some photos require you to be still for several seconds after pressing the shutter. i think thats one of the main keys to getting good sharp photos.15 Pro Max has arrived, just setting it up. Any photo tips/advice would be appreciated, especially to get great looking photos with lots of detail.
