Bottom line is I'm getting rid of my iPhone X in August and those are the 2 best choices for me. Yea yea I could wait for the Pixel 3 XL, but I don't want to pay $1100 for my next phone.

I have owned an S7 Edge and an S4. The Note 9's stylus doesn't really interest me. I've never tried stock Android

Apple-style updates and a great camera versus probably the best overall Android phone going outside of the Note line. It's a tricky one and really there are no bad flagship phones around these days. Most of us would be happy enough with any of them but for me I find stock Android a bit boring and I like the bells & whistles you get from Samsung.

They both have their pros and cons:

Galaxy S9 has loud stereo speakers, wireless charging, etc...

But it won't get updates like the Pixel 2, it has the Bixby button, etc...

Pixel 2XL has stock Android, fast updates, a better camera, etc...

But it doesn't have the hardware design, wireless charging, etc...

It's a hard decision

Had the Pixel for 2 days and couldn't stand the screen, otherwise it is a really fast phone with a top notch camera.
Btw I went with the Note 8 because of the screen

Pixel 2 XL for sure. I would rather get the best camera on the market along w/ pure Android. It also has stereo speakers too. This is coming from a Note 8 owner too btw.

To me this is a strange question. The Pixel 2 XL is the best smartphone release of the past year. If you want Android and not an iPhone, the stock Google phone is the ONLY phone to get.

The Galaxy S9+. Why would anyone ever choose that over the Google phone ? For what ? Crappy updates. Lagwiz. Gimmicky curved edge screen. Major bloatware preinstalled that can't be removed. Can't be rooted or ROM'd.

To me the smartphone world is all about just 2 phones. If you like Apple get the iPhone X, if you like Android get the Pixel 2. That's it. And stock Android is ten million times better than iOS.

Once you are the Samsung user, you always will be. For Pixel price will be on the level of Apple, yet they outsourced their phone to others like LG and HTC, that is what make their hardware disadvantage. The Nexus 6P is a great example with battery weakness. Why would the 'outsoucers' be a fool to supply their hardware while the Pixel will be competing with their own, just my 2 cents.

Getting a 10 month old phone still worth it tho?

I've had Samsung phones before. There are some things I like about them and some things I don't like about them.

The iPhone X has convinced me never to own another iPhone tho

At this point the Pixel 3XL will be out in a few months in October so depends if you are going to emergency and need a phone today I would only get a pixel 2 if on discount, otherwise wait

Hopefully they drop price by August/September

IMHO, I'd either wait for the Pixel 3 XL or get the S9/S9+ now. The Pixel 2 XL is now dated hardware and they are having to catch up with other manufactures.

I have a Note 8, and S9+ myself now. The s9+ kills the Pixel 2 XL in every function and it's so fast compared to it as well. You won't be disappointed with the s9+. It doesn't lag like some people who don't even own the phone above say.

I may hold off and get a 3 XL as long as it's not up in the iPhone X price range. It's a tough decision honestly

I have a Pixel 2 and I have to say that I'm not that impressed with it. Don't get me wrong it's a nice phone, but the camera isn't as great as people were claiming it was.

I probably need to go into Verizon and play with the S9+. I loved my S7 Edge so much that I think I would like that phone.

If you’re willing to get one right now you can get one with a discount at Best Buy.

Two phones? Meh. I refuse to pay top dollar for Google branded kit. The Pixel is ok but I preferred the Nexus line. OnePlus have kind of gone for the Nexus market and I'd take a OnePlus and some saved cash over a Pixel. They have a great camera for a smartphone but then so does the P20 Pro, Note 8 and S9+ amongst others.

Stock Android is kinda dull when you're laying down serious wedge. For that kind of money it's Apple or Samsung for me. Oh and btw, updates are overrated. People cry out for them but aside from introducing bugs and battery drain of what real benefit are they? I had a ton of Apple updates I wish that I'd ignored and I've had a fair few Android ones that I wish I'd passed on too. YMMV.

I have a lot of time for the Pixel line (had the original Pixel) but this time round there were too many flaws so I steared clear especially from the the XL despite the amazing camera.. waited for the S9 instead which is a better package overall.. amazing camera, amazing screen, beautifully designed to mentioned a few pros.

I like how some people here still use presumptive descriptions for the Samsung UX such as "lagwiz" etc. Clearly those people haven't used a Galaxy S9. The Samsung UX has come a long way since the days of TouchWiz.

It's ok to have an opinion but to try to put that across as facts is silly at best.

Nevertheless, would say try both the phones and decide for yourself.

My GF's S8 is a beautiful device I know that. I miss the little things like that nice always on display (because Jony Ive probably thinks its pointless....)

S9+ no contest, the Pixel is outdated. Oh and before the Samsung Haters come out and say Samsung phones lag, you obviously have not used an S9+

That means the Note 8 is outdated? I rather pay $600 for it than the Note 9 at $950. The Pixel 2/2XL aren’t outdated. A Nexus 6P or Pixel OG is outdated.
