I probably need to go into Verizon and play with the S9+. I loved my S7 Edge so much that I think I would like that phone.
[doublepost=1527447750][/doublepost]I think I need to change this thread to get an S9+ in August/September or wait until October and get the Pixel 3 XL.
Yep.I wouldn't even touch the Pixel 2 XL at this point, it has to be one of the poorest releases by Google due to its strange issues, they really need to get their quality control up to scratch.

Something that I always appreciate with Samsung phones is how they evolve to the new things without taking out anything. E.g. better Bluetooth audio quality but still keeping the 3.5mm jack, or upgrading the internal memory (here in South Africa S9+ comes in 128GB) but still keeping MicroSD support. Etc etc....

The S9+ much like the Note8 is also very fast and thanks to 6GB RAM is a multitasking machine.

LOL at the "Lagwiz" comments, people still clutching on to that old and worn out straw.

That means the Note 8 is outdated? I rather pay $600 for it than the Note 9 at $950. The Pixel 2/2XL aren’t outdated. A Nexus 6P or Pixel OG is outdated.
The Note8 semi-outdated, I say that because it has the 6GB of RAM like the S9+, but the older SoC. It has the Infinity Display but a slightly older one however it is a slightly bigger display.

It has the SPen and until the Note9 arrives it is the best device with a pen around.

The Note line is always an interesting one as it competes well with the devices of the following year thanks to it getting most of the upgraded hardware towards the end of the previous year.

I didn't get any lag on my S7 Edge it was a great device. My only issue really with a Samsung phone is the amount of duplicate apps and bloat, but I could always disable them.

I think I'm going to go with the S9+ after doing some research. If I ever go the stock route it may be in a few years. But I'm definitely going to go hands on with it and the Pixel 2 XL just to make sure.

The good thing with the App Duplication is that it's a mixed bag as some of the apps Samsung make better e.g. the Samsung Music player is far more functional than Google Play, same with the Samsung Video Player that can play almost any file type your throw at it.

Samsungs Email app also has better Exchange Support, in actual fact the Samsung Email app and Apple's Email app are the only 2 email apps that I have seen that can login without much difficulties to most companies exchange servers, it seems most IT departments give them an easier pass of some sort.

But the best Samsung duplicate app is none other than the Samsung Internet browser, it puts Google Chrome to shame! The Ad Blocking, Tracker Blocking, Video Assistance and incredible Extension support is just amazing. It actually shocked me how Samsung have built the better browser when Google Chrome on desktop is such a great Web browser. The Samsung Web Browser is also far more efficient in terms of RAM management and Battery usage.

People talk about app duplication like it's a bad thing but once you actually give each one a go, you quickly realise that there is a a balance that can be struck.

I hate stock Android, it's dull and a step back in functionality, I keep trying it and regretting it each time, it feels like Google really want to make iOS out of Android. Thank goodness for Samsung, LG, Huawei, HTC and Xiaomi for keeping Android exciting and adding their own flavour.

The Pixel 2 Design is very dated, it is also is a generation behind in CPU specs. The Note 8 at least has a modern design.

Nobody can tell the difference between last year's top SOC and this year's in normal use. Heck everyone is raving about the P20 Pro and t has last year's SOC. The Note has top specs all over the board. It hauls. It is still the current and latest Note.
Unless Samsung slow it down with an update once the N9 is released it will continue being a powerhouse, there is no reason for it not to.

Even a lot of it is a "generation older," it still is better than getting an iPhone X or another older device since like you said, Samsung makes it competitive. 4gb RAM is plenty sufficient for me actually. I would've gotten the S9 if I didn't have issues with the S9+ in the past if the price was right ($500 or so).

I think the Pixel 2 regular design is disappointing too. However, you have to look at the software + hardware blend: stereo speakers, best camera on the market, 4gb RAM + 835 processor providing the smoothest performance you can get on Android, and a lot of modern flagship amenities. Pricing is what hurts the Pixel 2's value. If that was $400 new, would it be in my possession right now instead of the Note 8.

Yes they are outdated. They don't have near the features any of the newer phones Note 8, S9+ all have. The only thing the Pixel 2 XL has is that camera, and even then, it's not hardly better than the s9 one now.

I gotta stay with Chrome myself. I use it on my laptop too

Pixel 2 XL: 18:9 aspect ratio, minimal bezels, QHD AMOLED screen, 4gb RAM, stereo speakers, squeezable sides, premium finish. Seems pretty contemporary since many phones offer AMOLED displays, 4gb + RAM, minimal bezels. HTC offers squeezable sides too. Premium finishes are important to sell flagships.

Outdated is too strong of a word. It might not be the most cutting edge, but it is still better than most of the latest smartphones out. I would take a Pixel 2 XL over the LG G7, LG V30, Xperia XZ2, S9 or S9+, Note 8 just to name a few major devices.

It's definitely not an outdated device. Phone take 2-3 years to become fully outdated these days. It's not 2012 when the technology was moving so fast that your device was outdated after 5 months. We're reaching the point when all they can do is tweak the devices hardware wise. IMO everything revolves around software.

It's bezels are not minimal. LOL. This link should be enough to answer why the s9+ is better than the Pixel 2 XL and is why you shouldn't waste your money getting the Pixel at this current time.

  1. Display: The Galaxy S9 Plus has a slightly larger 6.2-inch Infinity display with no side bezels and small top and bottom bezels. Independent testing also shows the S9 Plus has the best smartphone display of all smartphones. The S9 Plus also has a screen-to-body ratio of 86.2 percent compared to 76.4 percent for the Pixel 2 XL.
  2. RAM and storage: The new Google Pixel 2 XL has 4GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of integrated storage. The S9 Plus has 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal with microSD card support for nearly unlimited storage.
  3. Cameras: Google's camera processing software is tough to beat and the Pixel 2 XL yields excellent results. Samsung's smartphones also perform well and the S9 Plus provides the best low light experience with the option for full manual mode as well. I've taken some stunning shots on the S9 Plus and it is clear the physical camera software (f/1.5 vs f/1.8) is better.
  4. Edge panels: For maximum efficiency, you can easily swipe in from one side and access customizable edge panels on the S9 Plus. Google lets you squeeze to activate Google Assistant, but there are more options and capability with the edge panels.
  5. Broad carrier availability: The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is available on all US wireless carriers and various retailers. In addition, it supports special bands such as T-Mobile's new 600 MHz frequency that is starting to actively roll out now. The S9 Plus also supports up to 1.2 Gbps downloads with an advanced Qualcomm modem.
  6. Fast charging and wireless charging: The Google Pixel 2 XL has a metal back so it has no wireless charging capability. It's a convenient method to charge and once you place wireless chargers in your office it is tough to go back to a cable. Samsung beats everyone, including Apple, with the fastest wireless charging technology available today.
  7. Samsung Pay: Android Pay is popular, but nothing beats Samsung Pay when it comes to the number of retail locations that are supported and the technology that allows you to replace your credit or debit card. More banks are added regularly, and Samsung offers a ton of promotions to encourage Samsung Pay use.
  8. Headphone jack: While Apple and other Android makers took away the headphone jack, I keep going back to 3.5mm headphones and still find it is best to have it as an option when you don't have a Bluetooth headset charged. It's also convenient for additional accessories and external speaker systems.
  9. Bixby: Samsung's Bixby assistant is often lamented by the tech press, but it is actually very useful, especially for those performing field work or need to have both hands free to work. Bixby takes the assistant to the next level and has some incredible functionality, but it does require some patience to fully understand its full capability. The version on the Galaxy S9 Plus has been improved with additional Bixby Vision capability. You can also use Google Assistant on the S9 Plus so you get the best of both worlds.
  10. Samsung DeX: People use their smartphones for everything, and with the improvements in Samsung DeX on the Galaxy S9 Plus it is becoming an even better tool for businesses.
It's clear that Samsung continues to push smartphone technology forward with the Galaxy S9 Plus. It is the best smartphone available for the enterprise.

The Google Pixel 2 XL is an excellent Android smartphone with arguably the best camera on a phone. However, receiving timely Android upddates is not always the best for business and as we have seen over the past several months many of Google's releases have been buggy with lots of issues that the enterprise does not need to deal with just to gain some minor feature. Samsung also pushes Android forward and has many features found on future versions of Android.

That’s fine and all, but that doesn’t change how good the Pixel 2XL is and what differentiates the phone from competitors. I still recommend the Pixel 2XL due to software. A Samsung Experience skin is not as fluid.

That is your opinion, but I can tell you for a fact both my note 8 and s9+ are fluid and the s9 is faster than the Pixel 2 XL.

Why have two flagship Galaxies? I am sure the Pixel 3 would be faster and more fluid than a Galaxy S9/S9+. I expect my Galaxy Note 8 to slow down considerably a year from now.

One is personal and the other is my provided work phone.

Don't get me wrong the Pixel 2 may be some peoples choice and has some good strong points like timely updates and a good camera (not the best on the market) but i could not recommend it over the S9+, no way. The S9 plus is an absolute beast and does everything really well.

The S9 is smoooooth. You need to get the old Lagwiz out of your head, the S9 will go toe to toe with any of the flagships when it comes to fluidity. Even my S8 plus with the Oreo update is butter and its over a year old.

Can the Samsung email app and Samsung browser app be used on a Google Pixel phone? Or no?

Thanks!

The browser definitely can. Never tried the email.
I should probably clarify that -- can the Samsung apps be used on a Google Pixel phone by simply downloading them and using them "right out of the box"? (so to speak). Or does something funky need to be done to get these apps to work?

Thanks again.

The answer is yes, for the browser at least.

I know the Samsung Web Browser can be downloaded from Playstore, it is available for all devices :)

Samsung Email I am not so sure, you will have to check for that.

You won't have to do any modifications, I used the Samsung Browser on the Huawei Mate10 Pro and it worked beautifully.
