Nice.
And yeah it does. From my understanding, Americans do Black Friday and you can get a bloody good bargain on lots of types of items.
The UK use it as a way to sell of their old rubbish that no one actually needs but they feel they have to buy it as they think they’re getting a good deal. :D

USA is pretty much the same nowadays. It used to be some decent deals, now it's people fighting over a $300 no name brand tv that they couldn't unload for $5 more the previous week. We DO get some small sales on smart phones. Last year the Pixel 2 had a sale around the end of November for a free Home Mini and $100 in Google Store credit. But generally, BF/CM is about unloading junk here too.

That’s pretty much what it is here in the States too. Some retailers may have an enticing offer with limited supply to pull you into the store, but for the most part it’s discounted older inventory or just sub par products they’re trying to unload. Many retailers will even raise prices for some time beforehand just do the ‘sale’ price seems better.

I hate that weekend pretty much more than anything.

The 3 XL screen is definitely more flat then the curved edge screen of the 2 XL.

It's noticable going back and forth between both phones. I am not a fan of curved edge screens at all.

If the XL had 6GB RAM and a 3800-4000mAh battery it would be worth its $899 cost of admission. But TOO MANY corners were cut and the price is way too high.

So the new iPhone line also has too many corers cut and their price is way to high? Unless you think Google can't optimize their OS to work with their hardware like Apple can that is....

I've had naada issues with RAM management so far.. Will spec warriors be happy? Nope. Will people who actually use the phone be happy? Yup....

My view is that pretty much every flagship released in 2018 is a rip off... They increased prices from the standard $649 simply because Apple introduced a $1000 phone that actually sold. So my view is that you either go sub $350 and deal with alot of compromises (I miss the days of $250 phones with OLED) or you decide which flagship is ripping you off less. Apple is ripping people off the most IMO while I see the pixel line at one of the least. (I am also not counting Chinese brands in this opinion)

Well, music apps like Spotify shutting down in the background when simply using the camera seems problematic. That’s an everyday use scenario.

Any before you chime in that ‘It hasn’t happened to me so...’, there are plenty of documented incidents of this. Just go watch MKBHD’s video.

Who cares if he had an issue with an app? That's what you base your opinion on? Sorry, I base my opinion on ya know, in my hand - actual usage.. If you want to base your opinion on a youtube reviewer then have at it....

I've had zero, nadda, zilcho issues.... I have 10 apps running the BG right now and no issue at all..

When Pie came out I said the new gestures broke the app drawer. Verge agrees:

Android’s new multitasking is terrible and should be changed back
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbre...ndroid-pie-multitasking-gestures-google-pixel

And yeah, Android gestures flat out suck.

Agreed. I got my hands on a pixel 3 xl the other day and while the build quality was great and the OS was smooth, those gestures are awful. Since my current phone is an Xs max I was used to the iPhones gestures and frankly, they’re miles better than androids. It’s almost as if they tried to copy apples gestures but make them just different enough so they could say they’re doing their own thing. Unfortunately it’s just bad. It feels disjointed and unnatural and the worst part, it doesn’t actually free up any screen space which was he reason apple did it to begin with.

Anyone else find it ironically comical that phone manufacturers opted to remove the headphone jack to make more room in the phone then proceeded to take space from the most important space, the screen!?:confused:

Google should at least allow you to swing the back arrow over to the right side of the screen if the user wants, not even talking about giving the user the option to go back to the normal Nav button, just let those who hold their phone in their right hand the opportunity to relocate their back button.

iPhone does RAM management better than Android. Most of the RAM isn't going to be used by the OS, it doesn't matter how efficient the OS is when the apps are what you're using.

False......

But.... Have any facts and data to back up your claim that Google is incapable of optimizing their OS to work with their hardware on the Pixel 3?

So in a nutshell: Apple can get by with 3GB of RAM on the XR but Google can't with 4 Pixel 3? Did I get that right?

Anyone here that's ordered and waiting for delivery plan on installing Nova launcher to see if you can get rid of the gesture navigation?

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone here hands on thoughts on the device.

I don't know if I've overlooked it, but have you been able to find any information about that? I'm curious if that will fix the gestures issue as I wouldn't use the default Pixel launcher anyway.

Haven't heard much yet.

This did just pop up however...

Random thought: ugh, why couldn't it be pie controls (no pun intended)!? I mean on demand buttons and more screen space and no awkward looking gestures that look like using one handed would send the device to the floor

That’s not what I said. I said the apps are what use the memory and apps use more memory on Android than iOS. iOS compresses things better in the background than Android, often making them use less memory when not in use.

The OS is not the primary use of RAM.
