I won't use this thread to say how great my Apple watch is but I hope we may see this long awaited pixel watch out for those who want it
While in my mind this is what I want in my Android smartwatch, I have zero faith in Google to be able to produce anything that even mildly approaches the Apple Watch. From lack of good low power CPUs for smart watches, terrible OS and third party app support and Google’s aforementioned history of problematic hardware that takes numerous generations of fine tuning to improve—I can’t see the first few generations of Pixel watches being any good.

It took Apple a few generations of Apple Watches to get to what was considered a pretty good product and they have the advantage of having complete control over hardware and software, plus the rabid Apple fan base. Google takes exponentially longer to reach an equivalent point in development.

I understand you have some issues with the Pixel 6 Pro, but over time I think the Pixel 6/6 Pro will become more stable with security updates.

We forget Apple released an iPhone 4 with antenna issues… and some believed that was their best iPhone design. All companies have mishaps… Samsung had to do a recall on their Note 7 due to battery issues. We all are spoiled when it comes to technology that we forget how far we came along.

Although I don’t have a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro… I follow along because of their ties with Android and I want Pixel 6 to succeed because it helps Android and all that comes with it.
I have nothing against Google and my issues are anecdotal. Google has a documented history of hardware and software issues on release. Literally ever single Pixel device. I want Google to succeed, that’s why I keep buying their phones. But I think I’m done being a beta tester. If I get Pixel phones from now on, it’ll be 4 or 5 months after release so they can do the QC they should have done prior to release.

That’s what I said when the Pixel 6 was announced and I ordered one as soon as the preorders went up. We are ALL weak. Resistance is futile. 😂

Same. But I understand your reluctance. When my wife and I got our original Pixels at launch, I swallowed really hard before pulling the trigger. But we had good luck with them, fortunately. However, after reading all the issues others had, we did wait six months after launch to get our current 3aXLs for all the reasons you mention.

You don't say.......

;)

Yes I do the same, and for the most part it listens well. Even when I forget i have it listening, get distracted and move onto something else. I have had some interesting paragraphs recorded! ;)

Sorry things imploded for you! Hoping things improve so you can be a bit more comfortable and perhaps a bit more of a Happy mom!

For me the 6 is doing great, no big complaints. I think many of us are hyper verbal as we are in withdraws from having a reasonable dose of software updates ;) .

I still enjoy this device more than my other phones, only falls behind my 13 Pro in being a bit too big, and I do strongly prefer the video capability on iPhones to this day. Otherwise the budget little 6 is huge bang for buck and a treat to use!
Hi thanks. Unfortunately it’s all bad right now. It’s weird for me to be here after the kinds of phone calls I’ve had to take and make for my sick dad (today was a bad turning point), but this is my home base for my sanity I guess.

Nothing can lighten my heart more than watching any of us talking about restraining ourselves when a new phone is announced. Time after time, I say I’ll wait until all the bugs are worked out. Then preorders come up and I lose my little bitty mind!

I’m really glad I was able to go big and get the 6 Pro. It’s still everything I hoped it would be. But I distinctly remember being cautious and saying I was going to wait until all the bugs were revealed. Ha! Look how well I restrained myself!

Speaking of bugs, I am finally installing all the updates that have appeared available recently. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on as I haven’t paid any attention but I hope it’s all going to work out.

Keep a candle in the window here for me. I’ll be back when I can.

Interesting that T-Mobile is the fastest network and then the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro recorded the fastest speeds of any Android phones.

"Interestingly, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were found to be the fastest Android devices, beaten only by the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. This is interesting because there have been reports of the two Google phones falling short when it came to 5G performance."

Damn at your devices. That's a load of money! Lol!

13 Pro Max
Note 20 Ultra
Pixel 6
Galaxy Z Fold 3

lol.. I never pay retail..

13 Pro Max - Paid ~$190 at Best Buy after trading in my 12 Pro Max.
Note 20U - Paid ~$400 after promos and trade in at Samsung.
Pixel 6 - Paid ~$195 after trading in an iPhone SE 2nd Gen.
Z Fold 3 - Paid $999 at Best Buy - Outright ( no trade in ) & Unlocked.

I'm nowhere close to some phone-o-phobics on MR :p

Inquiring minds want to know if the Google call screener is working again?

Yes back to normal…I keep beating a dead horse but every time I use my other phones the voice to text is nowhere close to my Pixel…it was amusing talking to Siri for same tasks ..I know I know only small things for Siri like set my timer

My Pixel 6 was finally delivered yesterday. It's not in the cleanest of shape (the display has a few more scratches than I'd like, but the price was good enough to make it worth it). I was able to get it updated to the January update right away and started the process of getting moved over from the iPhone to the Pixel. It hasn't been more than a few months since I've used Android (I had / hated the Z Flip 3 for about a month before the 13 Pro), but, as we know, One UI is drastically different from the Pixel, so it feels like an entirely different experience. Anyway, it's been roughly 24 hours since I've gotten the phone. I'm liking it so far... I'm uncertain if I'm going to stick with this full time over the iPhone 13 Pro, but so far, it has been a fun change of pace from iOS! I'm really liking the animations, colored accents, and changes of Android 12... It's nice. Somewhat unrelated but related, I need a smartwatch, so I was looking at the available options and saw that the TicWatch E3 (one of the few wearOS 2 watches that are going to get the upgrade to 3 when it's available) was on a lightning deal on Amazon today. It won't be as impressive as the Apple Watch, but hey, it'll fit my needs! Hopefully.

Story over.

You're spot on! Although, it's somewhat refreshing for the fact that I don't have to really be careful about putting more scratches on the display, sure, I don't want to add more of them but... I don't have to be as careful. Does that make sense?

It's fun switching devices and realizing that the alternative operating system / competition isn't as "bad" as we'd like to think. I'm enjoying the 6 so far.

Since I updated the P6, and the ZF3, I can't make up my mind whether to carry the P6/13PM or ZF3/13PM combo or carry all 3 and look like an idiot juggling 4 devices ( counting ZF3 as 2 :p )

@Bkdodger - Totally agree on the speech to txt on the P6! I don't even type my txts or emails anymore when using it! The voice capture and conversion to txt is freakishly awesome!

haha, totally makes sense ! I remember the very first scratch on my first new car ( Trans AM WS6 ) and how furious I was at whoever ( unknown ) was responsible ( mall parking ) .. but, after a few days.. I stopped fussing and enjoyed the heck outta it.. when I finally sold it years later.. it hardly had any other scratches..

This is false. I have Google Fi, which runs primarily over T-Mobile, and the 5G speeds are attrocious.

I get full strength 5G signal outside my house, and many times I have screenshotted it downloading at ~150Kbps. Yes, that is "kilobits" per second, not Kilobytes. Absolutely nothing about the phone's data connection is any faster than any 4G LTE phone. In fact a lot of times, connectivity is worse.

When I first recieved the Pixel 6 Pro, I was pretty lukewarm on it. Its just a bigger Pixel. Nothing really special, nothing stood out.

That is, until I went to a couple concerts, and was blown out of the water by the low-light photo capabilities on the telephoto lens. We are talking about a f/3.5 lens, slow af by photography standards, and I was taking shots from the back of the pit of the performers on stage that looked like it was taken on my $$$ Nikon (my old Nikon not my new one). In fact I would go as far as saying that the low light performance of the tele lens is **better** than its daylight performance. I guess we probably have Google Camera software to thank for all this.

Its a shame there are no screen protectors available for the 6 Pro because I have already gotten scratches on the screen.

I have TMobile and my speeds blow away my friends who have Verizon and AT&T. I guess it also depends on where you are as well.

Get decent speeds in my area in T-Mobile

That's awesome! When you can take some good pics and be really happy about him, especially when you're out at an event... Put a screen protector. You can do the tempered glass from white dome or you can do the film protector to keep the scratches off the screen.

Not saying I don't believe you, but it appears that your phone is connected to Wifi here. Are you sure this was from 5G and not your home Wifi?

Here is a screenshot of mine, its not the slowest I have seen, but this is fairly typical for me. I just tested it again and it came in at 5Mbps. Sometimes I do get the insane crazy fast 5G speeds, but more often its just standard 4G speeds. Notice how the icon on the phone claims to have full strength 5G service. To be honest I do suspect its more a fault of Google Fi and not necessarily T-Mobile, still a big disappointment either way.

He's on wifi at the time of the screen shot but the results show it being connected to T-Mobile 5G.
