What's happening my friends? A lot of action going on in this thread since the last time I checked in on you guys and gals.. everything is running smoothly over here on my end with the 6P. No stopping me now lol.. I'm happy to see some happy people.. I'm in the same boat. I love my Android side.. iPhone is also my daily but most of the time it is just on the sideline hanging out.. calls messages a few other things. The rest is done with the pixel

I’m not sure which update I’ve got. I downloaded one the last time I checked in with this thread and it was a security update. I don’t know if that was the big update everyone’s been talking about or not.

In terms of connectivity, my Android phones were used to primarily do voice calls with my dad. He was my testing buddy. “Stormy” was the last phone he helped me test and he liked the connection we had on it and it earned his official stamp of approval. My last ever conversation with him was on my iPhone 11 though. We weren’t trying to test it, we were just talking. Both of those phones will never be traded away.

Sentiment aside, I’m still happy with Stormy as a device. My plan is to keep her in active use for two years at least. Google updates tend to make phones feel fresh and relevant in a way iOS updates don’t necessarily do for older iPhones. Which is why I kept using Snowball the Pixel 2 for as long as I did. I’m hoping Stormy will similarly feel renewed via updates.

I did already reserve the S22. I don’t know which model I’ll want. Honestly I just did it so I can get the S21 Ultra traded away. My S21 Ultra was made somewhat redundant by the Pixel 6 Pro.

I could have a use case for either a Note style phone or another smallish secondary phone with a good camera such as the s22.

For the S22 Ultra, I am glad to see the S Pen once again housed inside the phone itself, especially as Samsung evidently was able to do so while keeping the battery the same capacity.

I’ve been living in a kind of fog almost since I got my 6 Pro because of the stuff life throws at us. So I still don’t have a really good feel for Pixel vs Samsung operating environments. My vague impression is I prefer the cleaner feel of Google’s Android. I did get to use the camera enough to know the camera software can deliver in punishing conditions.

I unfortunately can’t say that about my S21 Ultra’s camera software. I’m hoping Samsung finally gets it together on the S22 series. But really it would not shock me if my pet and kid photos continue to turn out blurry or have an odd glow in indoor lighting. Year after year, it is what it is.

I was thinking about getting the S22, but I don’t feel like paying $1299. I don’t have my S10 plus to trade in anymore.
Not trading in my 13 pro because I might trade it in for the iPhone 14 pro. I do like the Note series though. We’ll see when it officially comes out, how I’m feeling about it. I don’t want 3 phones, 2 is enough.

My initial impression of the 6 is it's a great feeling phone but I know the FP sensor is going to drive me insane. Compared to other under screen FP sensors, this one requires more pressure and to be held down longer. And this is without a screen protector. Also, it did get very hot on the back when setting it up yesterday, almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Hopefully that's just a during setup thing. I love the size and feel of the phone though. And I only paid about $250 after my trade in, so price can't be beat!

I’m absolutely sure I’m sticking with the iPhone 11 until it just flat out doesn’t work anymore. It’s the first phone I’ve had in years that isn’t messing with my vision or my head or making me uncomfortable in any way. The 13 Pro display made me sick as a dog and I’m not putting myself through that again anytime soon. All OLED displays give me a touch of eye strain, but iPhone OLED displays somehow often outright disable me. Fortunately, unlike the SE2, the iPhone 11 meets all my needs as a daily driver and has a competent camera. I love this phone and it’s not getting replaced anytime soon and sure as heck not this year.

Pixel 6 Pro has everything it needs to keep me entertained for well past the one year I normally stick with a phone. And I am keeping it permanently, regardless, because it was the last phone my dad and I tested together. Like my Pixel 2 “Snowball” before it, “Stormy” will be in my active rotation for years. I also got that phone at a point where my life got turned chaotic almost overnight due to my own health issues and then my dad’s, so I’ve barely had a chance to get to really know this phone. I have not noticed any connectivity problems with it so far, so it will continue to hold my secondary sim. So far, my experience with it has been delightful. But I’m not taxing it the way others here are, who use Pixels as their main phones.

So…Samsung is where I apparently will be scratching that annual upgrade itch from now on. My secondary sim will bounce between it and my Pixel 6 Pro on occasion. The likelihood is that I will primarily use it just on Wi-Fi like I do my current s21 Ultra.

Lol I also own an IPhone 13 Pro and an IPhone 12 mini. I’m not using either at the moment. I can’t risk my health one more time on the 13 Pro. I don’t even want to lend it to my family members. I’m not going to try again with the 12 mini until I can spare the time to work through my problems with my neurologist. I’m keeping the 12 mini with the hope I can someday use it again without damaging my nervous system. It’s always helpful to have a small backup phone.

The 13 Pro will someday go back to Apple in trade for something else. Not a 14 phone of any kind, though. Not for me, anyway. I don’t even look at iPhone rumors too closely anymore. I just skim them.

Regular Pixel 6. I'm at my wits end with this fingerprint scanner. 7 / 10 times it'll work when my hands are warm and / or in brighter lighting conditions. 3 / 10 times it'll work in the cold and / or when the lighting conditions are dimmer. I'm running the January update. I've deleted and re-learned my fingerprints at least a dozen times. Am I just doing it wrong or what.

I've come to the conclusion that whilst the fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 6 isnt the best it's people's fingers that's the issue.

It must be down to how raised or deep the fingerprint is on the chosen unlock finger. I'm right handed therefore use my right hand more often. I guess the ridges on my right thumb must be worn down somewhat as I get a lot of fails when unlocking my Pixel 6 using that finger, however, when I use my left thumb it unlocks every time!

I could be wrong but that's the way it seems to me.

This sounds like an Apple “you’re holding it wrong” excuse.

There’s nothing wrong with peoples fingerprints. Google used old tech to save money, tried to make it more secure through software which is causing slow read time and lots of misses, and people are trying to figure out the problem.

A little tip, if it doesn’t work in the cold, use your mouth and blow some hot air on your finger and then try. Works every time.

I'm not making excuses for anyone merely sharing my experience and opinion.

The weird thing is my replacement Pixel 6 FPS with a tempered glass screen protector reads my thumb nearly 100% of the time in a split second. I mean it's fast to the point where it's like having it on the back of the phone. My original Pixel 6 had a slow FPS and was about 60% accurate.

I don’t know. I’m a lefty and I find my left thumb works well.

I’ve got really horribly chapped hands right now from washing them, because I am constantly going back and forth doing chores at two houses and caring for two households of pets and two different neighborhoods of stray cats, trying to prevent cross contamination amongst all these little beings. And so I’m having to use a lot of disinfectants and cleaners. I wear protective gloves and do use lotion, but it’s massive amounts of manual work so it’s unavoidable that all of my prints are literally a peeling mess. My left thumb is by far in the worst condition. But my reader is working shockingly well. I don’t get this kind of luck on my Samsung fingerprint sensor.

I’m thinking there must be a massive quality variance among the readers that have been installed in these phones.

I really hate in screen fps. But having them built into the power switch can be inconvenient, too.

Seriously. I've been following this thread with interest, and all this "multiple phones" talk has pushed me to the brink of some potentially poor financial decision making when I upgrade ;)
Haha I feel you!
I'm really pleased with my Pixel 6. Don't miss my Pro one bit, so I have no need for a second device.
I don't even have an iPad anymore. Call 2022 my tech detox 😜.
Lol listen to me. We alllll know this is BS and I'm weak.

With my recent decision to go all in on the Apple ecosystem for a while and give it a fair shake, I don’t see myself switching phones as often in the future. There’s just not really options on the Apple side to do it. I recently purchased the 13 PM and an Apple Watch 7 and I don’t see myself picking up anything else for a while until the fall at least when I might sell my tab S7 and pickup a new 11 IPP.

Also, I now see why people like the AW so much. It really is a lot better than the best Android smartwatch. It’s not close.
