Can you make it through a full day with medium to heavy use with the P7P?
Absolutely. I am a pretty heavy user and at the end of the day I am around 30% average. Sometimes higher and sometimes lower but I have never run out of battery even in an unusually long and heavy day.

It is just that certain tasks will drain the battery a lot faster than I expect. Browsing certain websites for example or navigation on cellular.

I can game for hours with lower battery draw than my s23? So it is really dependent on the task and not generally what you expect to drain the battery.

Yeah got mine last week. Seems it’s been an odd release given the amount waiting
How is it odd?

It gave us some new features and tons of big fixes. Seems like a decent monthly update.

The feature drop is nothing spectacular.

The delay sucks but it is better to have a stable update a little late than a borked update rushed.

It’s odd because of the amount of people waiting when others have got theirs a week or so ago

I see. Yes, I was one who just got it a couple of days ago.

Google did state when the update was officially announced that it would roll out in stages based on carrier and location. So it probably has more to do with carriers than anything else.

I am using US mobile which is an MVNO of Verizon and live in Nevada so probably a lower priority on both.

But it is odd how Apple can send the same update to all iPhones on all carriers at the same time and Google and it's OEM's can't. I never understood that.

You don't have to wait for it to get it, if an update is released go in your settings and search for it and if it's ready it should let you know to download it.
I'm not usually in a hurry as it isn't but security updates and maybe a few minor other things.

My Pixel 7a’s coral case finally came in. It’s pretty. I’ve got everything I want for it now. I’ve been using my 12 Pro Max exclusively since it arrived to make sure I can get accustomed to the pwm frequency on it before the return period runs out. I’m fine to use it lightly I think. I’ll go back to my Androids in a few days. I miss my Pixel.

Where did you get the 12 pro max? Is it new?

I would like to get the 13 Pro Max again but all I can find is used or refurbished (which is used) and I would like a new one.

Also the price is as high as a 14 Pro Max so I am very curious where you got your 12 Pro Max and the condition and did you get a good price?

I just got it off of Apple’s refurbished listings. I bought my M1 Air from there and was really impressed with the condition. I can’t even tell either the M1 Air or my 12 Pro Max aren’t fresh off the assembly line!

They’re perfect as far as I can tell. I believe the chassis or shell of my iPhone actually is new. Apple gives its refurbished phones new shells and batteries. The M1 Air also had a completely new battery and only one minor cosmetic pin point indent on the shell. I only see it when I go to look for imperfections!

It’s expensive to buy from Apple, but it’s as close to new quality as you can get for models they either don’t make anymore or are still selling at full price, with not much of a discount on sales. You get full warranty and can also get the Apple Care warranty if you want it.

Also, it appeals to me that the shell is completely replaced, because phones can get really grubby. They sanitize the laptops but when it comes to phones, too many people use them while sat on the 🚽 and my phobia about that will overcome my logic about the effectiveness of sanitizing processes every time. 🤣

Apple puts refurbished items through tests. And if something gets past them and you find a problem, as I said, you get the same return and coverage options as for a new device.

My husband got his Mac Studio as a refurbished model and he’s been completely happy with it.

We really can’t tell that we aren’t the original owners of our refurbished devices.

I see that makes sense. I will have to check periodically for the 13 Pro Max. Unfortunately you don't get a huge discount with Apple refurbished devices but as you said the warranty is like new which is really good. I used to only buy Apple refurbished laptops.

I totally agree and understand about the shell. I would not want to buy a used iPhone personally from a person or third party. I just don't trust it.

Just got my AT&T $25 a month prepaid "unlimited" sim card. Took a little to get it working. AT&T is so dishonest. The unlimited plan throttles data after 16gb. I thought it was truly unlimited but 16gb should be enough data for me and it is on AT&T and not an MNVO. I really did like Google Fi but I am hoping for a similar promotion on the s24 ultra next year and want to be able to be a new customer to take advantage of it. I got my device free and clear unlocked after 4 months. I will definitely use them again.

I hope the 12 Pro Max screen works for you!!

AT&T definitely throttles. I’ve been with them for well over 10 years and I’ve felt the effects.

I hope they work out for you.

The 12 Pro Max screen bothers me a little bit but it’s at least usable. I was so messed up after my last seizure I couldn’t even look at my 14 Pro Max screen long enough to check a text.

I didn’t want to chance going back to the LCD displays. That choice comes with an entirely different side effect I don’t want to incur.

Anyway, I’m fortunate to have this option but I’ve been stuck since I got it. I can not complete my log in to get access to Google photos from this phone. And I can not get the phone to stay logged in to our Wi-Fi. Except as a guest. Fortunately I have other means to access Google photos on my other phones. But this is just plain weird.

There are a lot of bugs and glitches accumulating in regards to my phones and my accounts. My husband is unfortunately swamped. And so am I. I was actually busier than he was, so I had to send him over to drop things off for my mom yesterday. I’m catching up on everything we had to just drop due to hospitalizations and deaths in the last 4 years.

Most of it is hard physical labor like hauling massive stuff from our mold infested barn-thing to dumpsters. I’m so disappointed that despite all this work, and my Apple Watch congratulating me daily on my hard work, I haven’t lost a single pound. Not one! I thought well, at least I’ll be toned! Nope. Still squishy. ☹️

I am so jealous of your trip. No I am happy for you. But man that looks so beautiful!

I love Yosemite. Gets a little busy but the park is a gem!

If you are still there I hope you enjoy the rest of your time and if you are back I hope it was amazing. By the looks of it, seems pretty nice!

Tone and muscle weigh more than fat so remember that. You may not be losing pounds because you are gaining muscle.

As a Man, I will take nice not overly done muscle definition over simple weight loss any time😉. It is actually much better for your body to lose fat through muscle so don't get discouraged!

Moving from Apple ecosystem is by design not easy. Apple does a great job of integration between devices. If you have family that use Apple devices it makes it all the more difficult. Communication between Mac OS and PC and iOS and PC, etc are not smooth.

I am dealing with it as well. But I am leaning more out of the ecosystem than in it.

I have my s23 ultra and a Samsung TV. I have a Samsung tablet and a PC. They all work really well together.

I love my M2 MBA and I probably won't ever get rid of having a Mac altogether but when you can get a PC laptop that has just as much ram and SSD as my custom configured MBA with a faster Intel CPU, 120hz OLED touch screen with gorilla glass cover for about half what I paid for the MBA it is hard to justify. I love Mac OS but my PC works just as well.

So today I just put my AT&T sim in my Pixel 7 Pro. We will give the Pixel a go for a while. Although like all the Apple people I am have s23 ultra withdrawals already. Lol

I am going to test my Pixel 7 Pro for a while as my Primary phone again.

I have two upcoming decisions. A Samsung Tab S9 with OLED screen. The new Pixel 8 Pro.

I want both but something in my electronics stable is going to have to go.

I will post back here in a few days to update my experience after using the s23 ultra for a few months exclusively.

I have had the pixel 7 pro since launch so what 9 months now? Believe it or not this is the longest I’ve ever had an android phone. I have always either stuck with my iphone or go android then back to the iphone. I will be keeping my pixel 7 pro until the pixel 8 pro which says a lot. While the chip isn’t great and while I wish it was brighter outside and I wish efficiency was better there is something about the pixel experience that makes it enjoyable to use.

Granted the camera is the main reason which keeps me using this daily as it is fantastic. It nails skin tones of my 22 month old son and my family. No other phone can compete in this area and pure point and shoot nails it most of the time. It’s the phone I use for work for calls, e-mails and general usage. So while yes my 14 pro max is my daily and what I use most of the time the pixel is always in my small tech bag along with my xiaomi 13 ultra which is what I use for different photos my other two phones can’t do.

After testing all 3 even with a smaller sensors compared to the xiaomi 13 ultra it’s amazing how great it competes even though it’s main sensor is a fair bit smaller compared to the 1 inch type sensor of the xiaomi it is often neck and neck due to the great google processing.

So to sum it up even though I’m an apple guy first the pixel I think is a phone which I will always have as the 2nd phone

I look forward to reading your thoughts on everything.

The Pixel 8 Pro would be hard for me to resist. I may end up not getting it though because I have the 7a providing all the features I like about Pixels. I got the 7a for a good price so I’m not sure I want to incur a higher cost to upgrade again, at least not for preorders. I might wait for a good sale after the 8 Pro has been out for awhile.

Going retro with the 12 Pro Max has actually given me the kinds of iPhone photos I like. I realize now Apple really went overboard with the sharpening and colors are off on the newer phones, they’re bluer. However, most of my 14 Pro Max photos taken in challenging conditions did at least turn out as keepers, in terms of everything coming out focused and decently exposed.

The Pixel 7a camera is a bit more fallible than I’m used to seeing out of a Pixel camera. I’m comparing it to my 6Pro that I traded in. But it is not enough to have me wanting to ditch the phone. I still get that cozy contentment with it. Battery life has been good for my usual use.

Well, from one of best writer's of these posts on this forum I am honored by your appreciation of my long winded responses.

Coming from the 6 Pro and knowing that the camera is pretty important for your day to day use as nice as the 7a is one of its weaknesses is the lack of zoom. It is a great phone and has a great camera but once you get used to a decent optical zoom it is hard to live without. At least that has been my experience.

We will see how the Pixel 8 Pro comes into fruition but I have a sneaky suspicion that Google will slightly improve on the 7 Pro camera. Bigger sensors, more mp and maybe, hopefully higher zoom although they will probably stick with 5 times optical.

Obviously I am pretty excited about the Pixel 8 series in general. It would be nice if Google did more to bring the Pixel 8 closer to the Pixel 8 Pro so that there is a more clear delineated difference between it and the 8a. Like maybe 120hz screen and an optical zoom. The zoom on the 8 could be less than the 8 Pro but even if it were the same it would be nice. Charge an extra $50 for the extra camera and higher refresh rate?

Add the flat screen, hopefully better screen and maybe, just maybe higher PWM like at least 240 which might help with the screen flicker sensitivity that affect a lot of people.

For now in my opinion the Pixel 7a is the best mid range phone you can get. It punches way above it's price.

I agree with you and I have had mine since December last year.

I honestly don't think there is a better phone in the price range and specially with discounts. The fact that it even compares to the s23 ultra is saying something.

It is not perfect. The Tensor has been a bit of a let down in battery life and in very limited cases the performance could be better but it still holds it's own and with a couple easy tweaks I can get much better battery life. Thermal performance is a pretty big limitation as well. I really hope Google in the Pixel 8 series actually adds vapor chamber cooling but I highly doubt it.

The Pixel 8 Pro could be the phone that gets me to switch full time to Pixel but my S23 ultra with the s pen and 8 gen 2 and slightly flatter more square screen are hard to beat.

Oh yes you certainly are right about missing the zoom! 7a is otherwise a wonderful experience but I’m definitely missing the zoom when it comes to getting impromptu cat photos around the house.

After my dad passed away, I adopted his cats. One of them is a feral cat who had walked in and claimed his house and my parents as hers. She was always skittish, even with them, mostly living under their furniture, so you can imagine how moving in with me and my family was a massive upheaval.

Fortunately she seems to love it here (I gave her and my dad’s other cats my entire office and moved my tower PC out and cat furniture in). She is adorable and I love to photograph her, but she’s elusive.

Sometimes if you try to step in too close the cat will notice that you’re trying to take her photo and stop whatever cute thing she was doing. Even after a year we can only get her close enough to sniff my fingers. The real progress is that she will sniff everyone’s fingers as a greeting. And she no longer hides when people come over. People are always coming over so she got used to that.

Changing subject now, I almost forgot to tell you I am not wearing my Apple Watch since a couple of days ago. I’d felt a bit of pain on my arm during the latter part of the day but I was so busy I didn’t check what it was. At night I removed my Apple Watch and there was a raised red welt under it.

I don’t know if something about the watch burned my arm or if it was just normal heat and pressure and prolonged contact that did it. I temporarily put my Watch on to find my iPhone (I am always forgetting where I sat my phone down) and it raised a welt next to the original one immediately.

I don’t know what that’s all about. Unlike other suspected Watch burns I’ve seen pictures of on this forum, my welt faded in a day. I’ll take a little break especially while I’m working so hard and try again another time. I’m guessing it was a heat rash. Or maybe even a bit of cleaning product got between my watch and my skin.

Mine pretty much dont work at all. My 4a was phenominal in that regard.
My 6 Pro had the best in screen fps I’d ever used. The 7a is not bad. Not great either. It works enough that I don’t find myself wanting to throw my phone through the window! How about that!

S23 Ultra is okay, too. They’re all just okay. The one on my 6 Pro was good.

P7P landing with me tomorrow as a go between my 14 PM and moving to a Pixel Fold..

How does one move their WhatsApp from an iPhone to Android - easily / smoothly etc?

Seems very easy the other way round!

transfer data from iphone during set up, and there's an option to transfer chats to whatsapp in whatsapp. If your backups are encrypted then it may not work. you need to transfer it during setup though, otherwise you will need to factory reset again. I found it pretty easy tbh
