PLEASE....Make Horizontal Video Recording as the standard setting for the camera app in iOS 9 MANY

People are tired of watching amazing videos that turn out to be vertical.
I am sure 99 percent of the people in here will agree but it's something that Apple should fix for once and for all. So many important videos released on the internet and half the video is cut because it's vertical.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the Nexus 5 had a little "rotate to horizontal" icon if you were in video mode and were holding it vertically.

The clue is in the terms 'landscape' and 'portrait'.

What about for people like me, that always make a picture in portrait mode, why make apple not a software fix if you make a photo in potrait instead of landscape that a software automatically fix the picture?

The image sensor in the camera isn't square, it's a rectangle that's in the same orientation as the phone (ie hold the phone upright and it'll give you an upright image).

The only thing you could do in software is crop it, but then you'd lose even more of the image.

Photos don't need fixing as taking a portrait photo is just as valid as taking landscape one. Videos on the other hand don't make much sense as far as being in portrait.

Of course there are legitimate reasons to shoot both orientations, but that wasn't what I was trying to say if you look at the original question.

There is never a legitimate reason to take a portrait video. Apple should implement a feature that only lets you record in landscape.

Horizontal videos urk me but majority of the time its just casual stuff.

Majority of the stuff I watch are a bit more professional and know how to do proper video recording. So yeah I rarely see it

Ugh I hate when people do vertical videos. Photos though, are more flexible. 90% of the time you should be taking photos in landscape, but some subjects need a vertical shot. Also, if you are taking a photo you want to use as a wallpaper on your phone, you'd better take a vertical photo. I tend to take vertical and horizontal photos of the same thing so if I want it to be a wallpaper, I can use it, and on the other hand I have a good horizontal shot as well.

Yep, you're right. 50/50 is much more reasonable than my 90% thing. I tend to over exaggerate things sort of dumbly. My bad.

And that is a good point. A photographer may want to emphasize the tallness of a building for example by taking a vertical shot. Maybe a shot looking down a long road.. Both probably favorable conditions to take a vertical shot.

The only way it could work would be to crop the image sensor in vertical orientation to record the correct frame size provided you could fit 1080 pixels across the sensor 90 degrees to its usual orientation. I actually don't see how this couldn't work.

I agree with the OP! Instead of the orientation deciding which way a video is shot, it should be a setting. So if dumb people, like most people, take video in portrait mode it is played back in landscape no matter what.

There should just be a setting (on by default) that prevents vertical recording. If you try to start a vertical recording, an icon appears promoting the user to rotate their phone 90 degrees.
