Crops huge amount of video, you're losing a lot of quality. It may not seem like it but you're not getting 1080p.
First, it doesn't crop anything meaningful from the image. As I have quite clearly stated, in the particular scenario I discussed, only black borders are cropped.

Second, I offered this tip merely as a way to watch a portrait video that has been formatted as landscape (i.e. had black bars to the sides) in such a way that it filled the whole screen rather than being in a tiny window. I never claimed it improved quality or upscaled it to 1080P or anything like that. It won't be 1080P because the process of converted it to landscape will have to downscale to get the vertical 1920 pixels down to 1080 (at the most) to fit into landscape.

Please take the tip for what it was!

Can't believe I am getting hassled for providing a tip, because people misunderstand or think I'm claiming it does more than it does. Go back and read my original post lol https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...pp-in-ios-9-many.1893656/page-2#post-21484794

Noted, when watching a portrait 16:9 video, grab the nearest iPhone.
and no upscaling, confirmed.

PS. No hassling the tip-provider.

It also looks crap on a 5 inch screen. In this scenario all the stage decoration, effects, backing dancers are all cropped off and instead the screen is filled of the backs of peoples heads.

Edit: Also... this particular concert was broadcast in cinemas around the world and will be the show they make the official DVD out of so if she wanted a video record of the experience she could have pre-ordered that.
I should have been more clear, I was not talking about this specific case but in general. But I'm sure that mother is gonna give her phone to her kids and they'll watch it on her phone. Vertical or Horizontal doesn't matter then.
