Update MBP/Apple Care case

x0923 said:
72 hour turnaround?????????

i just called them and they said that happens only in rare cases and all this other nonsence..
i have apple care just like everyone else.. yet i have no estimated date

just wait for the shipping email they said..
my data is just as valuable as yours

and i didnt get any option to keep the machine to xfer MY DATA. this is totally unacceptable

they actually TOLD ME that YOU probably know someone in the company to get that deal if your story is even true. i believe you,but this is totally unbelieveable

May be you deserve an update... The 72 hours passed and I did not hear from Apple. I called them again and I realised that they sent me back to square 1.
I talked to a lovely lady based in Ireland (Apple Care). She asked me to sign a form that says that I would be charged if I don't return the old MBP within four days after receiving the new one using their carrier (free of charge I suppose).
Then I received an e-mail from the Apple Store saying that I would receive my new MBP in one month's time.

In a way, I am quite happy with that. I do get headaches with the noise of my MBP but I wouldn't want to receive another one with the exact same problem. Hopefully, by the time that new one comes out of the factory in China, they will have resolved the noise problem.

Anyway, if you are not happy with your MBP, send it back. Apple, like any other companies, needs to get things right. No favour!

I will keep you posted.

Rgds,

PS: I know nobody at Apple.

I'll send it back

After adding 1GB i have this display noise too. The display noise is not as bad as the cpu whining. I had a chat with Apple Care Germany today. Nobyody heard about this whining problem before. I decided to change the MacBook.

TNT will pick it up.

I have the whining (CPU I assume), but honestly, it isn't that bad and doesn't annoy me. I'm a recent "switcher," and PC notebooks do this stuff all the time. To be honest, my other desktops and some of my other notebooks make as much or more noise.

Other than that, this is one solid machine. Very slick.

Got my new MBP and returned my old one through TNT without charges. No more noise/whining. It just gets a bit too hot sometimes. Otherwise, it works like a charm. Everything is fine.

I, too, have the infamous processor whine and on top of that an LCD buzz. I just received my MBP last friday, and ive already had two conversations with applecare; Neither resulted in anything being fixed, and im tempted to request a new MBP, as I don't feel like going through the hassel of waiting for mine to be repaired when it is really BRAND new. Any thoughts?? Everything about the mbp but these issues is fantastic, minus the whole heat thing (the bugger gets really hot on the left side, all the way down to where my left palm rests when typing), but I want these issues clered up.

Btw, I have a 2.0ghz with 512X2 ram.

Well atleast you've all got sexy MacBook Pro's that make <1db noise, rather than a HUGE UGLY BRICK of a notebook that sounds like a 747 taking off - constantly:eek:

The 747 laptop i'm referring to belongs to a good mate of mine, its a Toshiba Equibium 2.8GHz Celeron D with 192MB Ram. He's now selling it to buy a Mac Mini - figures:rolleyes:

Thanks, Joe.

It's probably worth fighting to get a replacement/fix for the LCD buzz, but the whine and heat seem to be happening right across the board. There's always the "mirror widget" on the apple site to fix the whine (just start it up and close it down - the whine should be gone until reboot or till you start up Isight again) and heat is a relative thing. Mine is H-O-T, but I'm able to get used to it for now.

Guess what... Apple sent me a new MBP in replacement of the original one which whined. Everything was fine with the new one - I meant no more whining - untill now. I just can't believe/explain this. This is really upsetting. Anyway, I have just tried the "mirror widget" trick and it seems to work for now. At least, I will be able to work on my university assignment without getting any more headaches.

Thanks again for the info.

I think the explanation is that Apple hasn't come up with a solution yet. I haven't heard of anyone who's MBP doesn't have that whine (that's used their MBP in a quiet room, anyway).

I've seen people who have claimed to have ones that were silent. Hard to know for sure since there's no way to really quantify the sound.

Yeah, true. "Silent" is subjective. I thought mine was silent for the first few days, until I used it one night in a very quiet room.

Then I found out that it was even MORE "Silent" if I ran the Mirror Widget. :)

Open Comic Life then close it. Noise gone, you have a silent computer

This is funny to read all these post from people so furious about their MBP making noise. I have it too and it is not as if it was so loud that the computer is rendered useless. It is fine. Apple is being nice replacing these units. I know I wouldn't replace your computer for you. It isn't broken.

Nobody notices the other, much louder noise?

I'm surprised that there seem to be far more complaints about the processor whining noise, which can be silenced by using MagicNoiseKiller, than about the screen inverter noise (the one that changes with screen brightness setting). The latter can not be silenced, and at least on my Macbook is significantly louder. Do any of you guys NOT have this problem? Anyway, apparently Apple has acknowledged this one and they can fix it.

mark!
