Keeping the battery away from 30 and 80 is the best strategy.
I personally work near a power source, so I get plugged in all the time and set the battery to 50percent.

A fairly new 16' MBP - purchased on April fools day from Apple (new). Slightly over provisioned. I use AlDente to keep the battery around 60-80% all the time (gets used as a desktop a lot (some reading on battery)).

Sounds good to me. I've had good luck with my Apple Batteries (usually over provisioned). The battery life on this laptop lasts forever (at least for me) - so even if I had a 94% capacity battery I'd be pretty happy with it. I always get AppleCare+ so I'd keep a close eye on the battery.

It actually looks like the quality control has dropped even on these new macs. No one has posted a machine with battery over capacity yet. My macbook Pro M1 13" with 9 months of use is still at 102%. Came with over 103%.

Not likely to be a matter of quality control but how Apple determines battery capacity and charge. What's the meaning of having a battery at over 100% capacity? That makes no sense unless there's some arbitrary element in that number. If there are fewer cases like that now, the most likely explanation is that Apple has tweaked the way it does the numbers.

14" m1 pro with 10 core CPU and 16 core GPU and 1tb storage, delivery on 3th of December. WOW already down to 97%.
Edit: 77 cycles based on coconut battery. What is the best way to keep this maximum capacity as high as possible, charging when dead or keep it attached to the charger as much as possible?

Just got the notification for "service recommended" on my 2014 Macbook Pro last night. I think the last time i checked it, coconutBattery said it was at 75% health.

I've never had a computer last as long as that thing did, its an absolute tank. A true testament to how well mine was made haha! Probably going to end up replacing the battery, and when the new battery goes in I'm probably going to put an NVMe in to upgrade that paltry 128GB stock drive.

It's only at 66 cycles. The battery hasn't been used at all. Doesn't surprise me that the health is shot.

Mine is the same way; it seems like early release batteries are different? Mine is at 94%, and it has been used lightly and with AlDente management. But Apple is saying 98%.

I usually would run it to 15-25% and then charge it when I was mobile. Most of the time I'm at my desk attached to a monitor and it is plugged in with Al Dente set to 70-80%.

Have had my MBP since early January. Primarily use as a desktop, but travel once a month. At home, use alDente to coast at 30%, plus calibrate every couple weeks. Use for gaming (League/FFXIV), AfterEffects/AI/PS/ID, web dev.

The third party app, Better Battery 2, shows the plot below for my M1 MBA for the past year.

My Apple health "max capacity" is 100% and has been since new, while ioreg value has been down to 94% and back up to 100% and down again.

Yep - well said. I used to watch my battery health parameters religiously early on (iPhone 6+, etc). Now, I know my actions have very little to do with the health of my battery and unless it's <80%, Apple won't do anything about it. So I get AppleCare+, I use AlDente and go about my day. I still peak at the values now and then and enjoy the topics on batteries.

I've had a Macbook 13" unibody that had the battery swell up and bend/destroy the whole laptop with 1200+ cycles. I should have replaced it perhaps a bit earlier on. You could replace the battery as well to prevent swelling and/or thermal runaway.

AlDente is a smart move. I have mine docked at my desk plugged into a monitor 99% of the time, so I just set the charging limit to 45% (which is roughly the recommended state-of-charge for long-term storage).

My battery health is at 100%, but that's not very meaningful considering how new it is. Not regularly charging above 75% definitely did extend the battery lifespan of 2 of my older machines, though (also used them as desktops most of the time).

Still cannot believe how long it took Apple to not let their laptops sit at 100% for weeks or even months at a time when used as desktops. I know multiple people who used their MacBooks as desktops and had them always plugged in at 100%, and it didn't take very long before they wouldn't even turn on unless connected to power.

Got 2021 MBP16 February 08. Battery health was 100% on receipt. 2.75 month later it is still at 100%

I use this laptop a lot for producing videos on my YouTube channel. But never have to charge more than once per day. Sometimes, 3 days go by before charging. I do not take any special precautions.

Battery life and charging is way better than my 2016 MBP16. That thing ate batteries. By the same token Apple gave me $720 trade in value. Not bad considering I used it for 5 plus years.
