Just wanted to add my small input as someone who has been on a plus since the 6, and has extreme anxiety about switching to the X - I was supposed to get mine today, but since I changed delivery to a UPS hub 2 minutes from my house, it is now delayed until Monday, so I did what any irrational apple user does and went to Best Buy and target to play with it. My immediate impression was "too small". But after playing with it for a few minutes I very quickly changed my mind. Much of what displays on screen (text, pictures, etc) is closer to the size of a plus and not a 4.7. Text on a 4.7 is too small for me. On the X, it is basically like a plus. There is much more text wrapping , very similar to the 4.7, due to the narrow display, but nothing that I could not live with. And the phone does not display apps like a plus in landscape. But I thought to myself, "How often do you use that", and the answer is not much at all. Occasionally in the messages app, but mostly in safari and videos. On the X, safari in landscape is very much like the plus from a size perspective (but no tabs), and you will be doing more scrolling as the content tends to be 2-3 lines less than a plus would display. Videos in different aspects all play great on the X, and the size of content displayed did not concern me. The phone feels amazing in the hand, much better than the plus, I must admit. I have rather large hands, and was able to fairly comfortably navigate the phone. And the notch............honestly is a non issue IMO. It is much smaller in person than I expected. I would not say it is ideal, but I really did not find it intrusive at all. Even in full screen playback, I kind of didn't see it, unless you focus your attention on it. I think it is one of those things, that if you are not actively using the device, appears worse than it is. And I am not trying to be an apologist at all. I actually found the home bar to be more distracting than the notch. I came away from the phone with a very positive perspective and am now really disappointed it did not come today ( I was really intending to return it anyway). The size of it just seems...perfect. I dont even know if I would want to consider an "X plus" (though I will not hold myself to that). My only concern (and one of the features I was looking forward to the most) is front facing portrait mode. You could tell that the camera blurred out the background beautifully, but seemed to have trouble with the edges of the subject. I had glasses on top of my head and the glasses and even some of the edges of myself appeared to be a casualty of some blur. Hopefully this may be something that can get improved in software.
If you are someone who absolutely can not live with out the landscape features of apps on the plus, or need to feel that large surface area of the plus in your hand, then the X is not for you. If you can accept a bit of change, the X is actually a very pleasant surprise. I think I will at least open my phone now when I get it (as opposed to a straight return, and am more in favor of the device than I was.
Edit: On gestures: I actually found them very intuitive, and had to wonder why IOS didnt always have it? Using the X is much more fluid. And I have read several reviews saying that reachability was difficult to work. This was not my experience at all, reachability , again, seems to work much more fluidly than before
