It works for any location worldwide. The only restriction is that if the temp drops below 0 we have no way of pushing that out as a badge, because Apple doesn't support it. We've raised a change request with them, so who knows if they will allow it one day.

We've been trying to figure out a creative way to get around this, but have so far not come up with anything good. One idea was to put a '77' in front of the weather, so -5 would be '775' and -15 would be '7715' but that might just confuse people more. I guess you guys in the US are a bit luckier in that you have to get to -17c before it gets to 0.
Out of curiosity, which characters are allowed on the badge? Only numerals?

Took a chance, bought this app and it's great! Nice work on it.

One thing or suggestion rather, is maybe a different icon for the app. The one you have is fine but I don't think it's a great icon for a weather app. Just my personal opinion. :D

I second that.... The overall UI of the app is amazing but you wouldn't know that looking at the icon

Ha ha thanks guys. We actually played with about 15 different icons and still haven't found one we are completely happy with. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get something that small looking good! Historically it matches Pocket Weather AU, which is the Australia only version we made about a year ago, but that doesn't make any sense to anyone who is new to our apps!

To answer the other questions 1.1 should be released to Apple in a few weeks time, and you can only send positive integers (1 -> 99999) to the icon badge.

I guess, when temperatures fall below zero, you could simply not push it. That way, one would know that it's very cold outside. :D Moreover, the need for negative temperatures will diminish with global warming anyway. :(

P.S. Your icon is just fine. It's quite different from all the generic ones around (like sun with clouds). :)

Can we see the different Icons you guys played with?

It would take me a while to track them all down, but here are some of the early ones. One day I will get around to it and put them all up as a post on our blog.

How frequently does the temp get pushed? How much of a battery drain does that cause?

What's the source of the weather data? Can you provide a look at what features are coming for 1.1? I would really like to get severe weather alerts in my home area only pushed with a badge change as well as an audio alert.

First row, fourth icon for me!

However, it does need some polishing: make the frame a tad thinner, get rid of the glare (or whatever it is) or make it less distracting, and finally, make the sun a tiny bit smaller.

Where do you get your weather data?

I just purchased your app. It's done very nice. However, where do you get your data? I am in Fremont Calif where we are in a heat wave. Your app predicted rain and thunderstorms. Boy, way off. Yes we had a little fog this morning , but that is quickly burning off and we have sunny skys. None of the other weather forecast sites have rain and thunder.

Also, how about adding National Parks to your locations?

I'm curious on where the weather's coming from as well. I can't seem to pull up Yosemite National Park. Yosemite Lakes is the only thing I get which is not to close to the park.

The other icons look great...lots of good choices! I like the first row, 1, 2 and 4 :)

To echo what everyone else has said...great job on the app. I was using fizz weather, and was very happy with it. You've just exceeded my expectations. I'd also like to see a different icon, but understand it is a bit difficult to find something that looks good at such a small size.

Regardless, you've done a great job for the first version. Looking forward to future updates. Now if only apple would allow you to have the icon change on the fly. We shouldn't have to jailbreak to get certain things.

Can the developer tell us what the source of the weather data is? It would be useful to know depending on how reliable the particular source is.

Our data comes from CustomWeather, the same provider a lot of other apps (like Fizz Weather) use. At the moment we only support all the locations they do, though at some point in the future we may consider adding other data sources. What sources do you guys find most reliable for where you live?

As for the icon, we will probably tweak it over time as we play with new ideas. It's good to hear your thoughts on them, as it could drive what we do in the future...but this is not App Icon Idol ;)
(besides like I said those were some of our earliest designs, not the later ones).

Edit: The temperature is pushed every 5 minutes. Turning notifications on for 20 apps causes the same battery drain as doing it for one app. That's the whole reason Apple went that way instead of allowing apps to run in the background. I find on my 3GS it probably takes about 5-10% extra battery.

Thanks much for the update. I don't have any experience with CustomWeather accuracy in my area, I will check out their website and see how good it is. I have found that TWC has the most accurate forecast data in my area, but I doubt they will provide data to other apps for obvious reasons!

So this is interesting. I checked out Custom Weather's website and was able to pull a Yosemite forecast using their zip code. But it doesn't look like I can use a zip code in your app. I think if I could search by zip code or city name, that would be great! Maybe for a future release?

Still enjoying the app though!

I just have one feature request.... I like how in Weather Bug it tells you amount of rainfall for that day! Is that something you can implement!

Lol i just looked and noticed that its in there but there is some discrepancies?

Your app shows .05

but WeatherBug elite shows 4.55in (this is the accurate one checked vs. local weather station )

We are working on zip code search for the next version as well. So that should let you add US locations a lot more easily.

With the rainfall thing I will look into it. Ours is for the last 6 hours, maybe the weather bug one is for the whole day or something like that?

Just purchased this app. Very happy with it, and will leave a review on iTunes for you.

My two suggestions....

I don't know if you've seen how Weather Underground does radar, but it is nice, and rocks on the iPhone. Weather Underground is not an app, but they've built a iPhone specific page that works great in Safari on the iPhone. Their radar updates every 5 minutes. See Weather Underground - iPhone version I use specific bookmarks in Safari for each city I want to monitor.

Might be a bit tougher, but I'd love to be able to pick nearby weather stations as points to monitor (this can also be done in the Weather Underground Safari interface if you subscribe to Weather Underground).

While this app can't quite untie me from WU yet (I've been a subscriber for 5+ years & use their full Safari version website interface all the time in my job - outdoor motorsport photographer), your app as it develops out could come really close! :D.

This app is very nicely done. Great job. I hope it does well for y'all.
