Why aren’t the widgets interactive? Like why can’t I click on one of the days and find out what events are on it instead of it redirected me to the app itself? Might as well hit the app icon then.
Sounds like without the "Tomorrow" header there's more space for it all. It would be interesting to see if there were 4 or more events, how would that get displayed.Well this is interesting. On the day of the event the widget actually expands the all day events automatically!

Is this the best they could do!View attachment 956898
What is a real pity and in my opinion a massive missed opportunity is that these widgets can’t be placed on the Lock Screen.
Imagine just glancing at your phone and being able to see your next couple of appointments etc without having to unlock.
Ya the widgets are lame. You can’t interact with them which is a step back. It’s just window to information that take you to the app.Seems like a lot of wasted space.
Because they are widgets. Why aren’t the widgets interactive? Like why can’t I click on one of the days and find out what events are on it instead of it redirected me to the app itself? Might as well hit the app icon then.
And?Because they are widgets.
Says who? Why can’t widgets be interactive to a degree?Widgets display information. Apps are interactive.
Says Apple.Says who? Why can’t widgets be interactive to a degree?
Not true. For example the Reminders widget: iOS 13, you can tick off reminders from the widget. iOS 14 - nope, you can only open the Reminders app.... but even widgets in iOS13 are like this.
Not sure I ever read an official statement saying that but I get your drift.Says Apple.
Thats just what widgets are.
Maybe in the future widget functionality will be improved, but even widgets in iOS13 are like this.
Not only are they wasting space, they don't always update.
Create an event on another device (with iCloud calendars) and there's a chance the widget will won't show it. It's even worse with third party apps.
I enabled background refresh for Readdle Calendars, ran the app a few times, and then created an event on my laptop. An hour later, not only didn't it show in the widget but the notification didn't go off as Readdle Calendar had no idea about the event.
The stock Calendar app did send a notification but even the stock widget didn't show the event for at least 30 minutes. Plus there's still the bug where the stock Calendar widget removes events 15 minutes after the start-time, regardless of the end-time.
Unless widgets actually update when you swipe to the screen showing them, they're going to become annoying and eventually unused.

Wow, the complaining that goes on. Apple gives you something you didn't have before and you just puke all over it. Got it.
It's new functionality that doesn't work perfectly. Your argument seems to be that as long as it's new, it doesn't have to work well. My argument is that if we keep moaning they may improve itWow, the complaining that goes on. Apple gives you something you didn't have before and you just puke all over it. Got it.
I have plenty of interactive widgets.Widgets display information. Apps are interactive.
Ummmm my Tesla widget allows me to unlock, open the car, and turn on the ac right from the widget. When it gets update to iOS 14 standard it’ll make you go to the take you to the app itself. That’s a step back in functionality. Same with me thermostat app. Let’s change the temps right from the widget. So no widgets are not just windows to the application. They can be bite sized live app on the screen that lets you interact with the most important functions.Because they are widgets.
Whats interesting is that Fantastical on my iOS13 iPhone can display more events than on my iOS14 iPad despite both still being OS13 "Today View" widgets. Probably has to do with there now being size restrictions to iOS14 widgets; on my iPad it displays 1 with a "View More" button that which launches the app. Be interesting to see what a native iOS14 version of the Fantastical widget will look like.Apple: We are going to allow widgets to migrate beyond the today screen. HOWEVER we are also going to dumb them down.![]()
