Question.

I'm still under iTunes Match which my subscription ends later in the year, I've read plenty of articles regarding Apple Music using DRM when matching songs.

Now, if I end my iTunes Match subscription does my songs convert to DRM... Has the issue been addressed by Apple yet?

Apple explains that here:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204962

I had Match and let it expire this month and everything in my library remains there--available to stream from my Mac, iPad or iPhone. I only stream music from my library, all of my music is safely tucked away on two external drives.

I forget about billing today, but I am not mad about 6 euro, more about being Apple´s +1 customer. I did quick test with discovery features. It is still bad. About 20 seconds to load any new music in itunes with my ridiculously fast internet and suggestions that matched my taste only in songs I already have. On the other hand Spotify ´s weekly discovery was perfect in quick and easy finding new songs.

Not that I am bashing Spotify, but for my music listening tastes Spotify weekly discovery didn't really have anything I liked for the past 6-10 months. Personally I don't think any music service will "Hit The Mark" on discovery.

What I notice about Discover Weekly is that it focuses on certain fragment of my music taste. Yes, I like dance music sung by women. But I also like thrash metal, Enya, progressive rock and some ol' punk. While Discover Weekly is amazing at giving me dance music with female vocals (or RuPaul) (don't judge) that I haven't heard yet, I'd like it to become a bit more varied.

Maybe I have to leave the computer overnight playing Amon Amarth with sound off.

I am pretty straight forward in my music. Indie/alternative with little bit of rock and very very few dance or pop. So maybe because of this I like Spotify discovery more.

Yes maybe Spotify is better at some genres for discovery than others. It doesn't work well for me.

Yea, same.

Discover Weekly was nothing short but amazing yesterday. Ended up saving 7 songs that I really really liked.

Maybe Spotify knew.

But I feel Apple Music definitely gives more generic/wide range of tastes that you might even remotely like.

Spotify kinda knows pretty much what you want and focuses it pretty well.

I can't help but feel like Apple Music playlists were automatically pandering. It seemed as if they were randomly throwing Black Flag and old Bad Religion songs into otherwise mainstream alternative playlists from the same 80s time period.

I just got emailed. but i'm only gonna pay for 1 month i decided only just to see what improves, if any...

During this time i'll grab all AM i have in my playlist with Macsome software...

I guess what would happen if iTunes match subscription ends, then it will be treated as a separate service normally would and act the same..

Your music would be removed.... I don't know, but i don't think Apple would just automatically DRM it as a convenience, because Apple's already mentioned on their website "iTunes match is complimentary". The fact u need t turn it on separately, and renew it separately, makes me believe it also behaves separately. so make a backup.

Yeah, I know it would be beneficial of me to make a local backup. But I normally just store ripped CDs in the cloud.. And not store locally on my drive... Allows me to free up space.

I have music stored in Google Music, so... If somehow my Match library gets DRM'd when my iTunes Match subscription ends I'll have that as my back up. But I am planning keeping Apple Music for the foreseeable future.. I'm enthusiastic about the future due to the competition of the music streaming services.

Now that Google has matched Apple with their family plan... It will only push Apple to provide a better service.
