Absolutely. I scratch screens, I don't know how but I just do. I use the plastic film ones though. They're easy to apply and remove if they ever get badly scratched. I've never used a glass protector in my life. I don't like how they look.

I never do initially but once the oleophobic layer wears off I have to use a tempered glass screen protector or else the screen gets too fingerprint-y. (Tempered glass protectors come with an oleophobic coating.) Apple Pencil works just as well.

No.

If I replace this 12.9" iPP, I might consider that next time. Not so much for the finger prints, but to just protect the glass. If the protector does not muck with my vision or the pencil, I think it may be practical going forward. I never needed a screen protector prior to this iPP.

No. But I have an Apple leather case on my Air 2 since day one. Had it for more than three years (since launch) and never scratched the screen. I generally hate screen protectors. I never had one on the 20+ mobile phones I ever had and have only broken one screen.

I don't have an iPad anymore but I do use tempered glass screen protectors on my 8 and 9.7 Samsung Tab S2s and I'm glad I do because 2 weeks ago in a single week I first dropped the 8 flat on concrete from about 4 1/2 feet. The screen protector cracked a little but that doesn't effect the performance at all, but if the screen had cracked (as I did on my old Google Nexus) it's kaput. And then a day or two later a heavy metal object fell right on the screen but luckily nothing happened. When I did have the iPad 2017 12.9 I had the flexible glass (how can glass be flexible anyway?) on it, and true enough I preferred it naked, but Apple wants $650 or so to fix those big screens!

Resurrecting this thread. iPad mini 5? Now that you can use the Apple Pencil with it, does this make it more prone to scratches?

Yes. I've put them on every device I own, and all the ones I've bought my grandkids.

I did just change my glass on my iPP to the anti-glare film (iCarez), since I'm now using it for my portable device vs main (I do a lot of writing on it). I LOVE how that film makes it feel like I'm writing on paper. It's awesome!

Yes I have a tempered glass one. Unfortunately a tiny piece of dust got trapped underneath, but it's no big deal.
