In the meantime I shall just enjoy the iPad to the fullest, and make sure I use light mode during the evening since that’s when it occurs. I did say I was going to Apple store to see if they can check if it’s normal or not. :)
Your eyes must be really sensitive, I use my iPad in a pitch black room in the morning and the blooming doesn’t bother me. ?

I’ve only got the tv on during the night and the screen still looks fine. ?

Agree with you on the screen, it’s one bad ass, sexy screen. ?

Good luck, hopefully you get the outcome you’re after.

I have never thought of that, but you may be on to something regarding sensitive eyes. Come to think of it, even the moon blooms when I go look at it at night.

Apple employee did a hard reset on my iPad, still in dark mode right now and I just watched that incredible LG video and the top right LG label was not blooming that big of a screen this time tonight.. Quite possible IPadOS was glitching with the 3 versions of 14.5, 14.5.1 and 14.6 installed. What a royal treat to see the rest of the video without being distracted by that. And that black…. ? ? ???

Maybe your eyes have adapted to the display ? the deep blacks and contrast is amazing, OLED like. ?

Really ? sounds awesome ?

Do we get proof that the courier has taken our items? In case something goes wrong.

How will I give the courier a receipt, since I don’t have a printer????
Guess we will find out when we call Apple to actually initiate the return. I will need to do it tomorrow as it is 14 days since I received the new iPads.

there has been a lot of talk of people buying the new 12.9 PRO and then going back to the 11, and vice versa, lets get some data so we can all share the numbers on this!
I have the 11” iPad Pro, and I love this size. Maybe I could go smaller, but not bigger in any way. That’s because I use it both as a tablet and as a computer-like device with the smart keyboard folio. In case I’d use it as a laptop replacement 100% of the time, maybe I could consider the 12.9” size, but as a tablet I’d never choose that bigger size.

I use my iPad most of the time, but keep in mind I have a mac mini with a 24” display, and I plan getting a MacBook Air / Pro on the next years, so my compute needs are usually covered by a mac machine. That’s why I think 11” gives me the best of the tablet and laptop worlds.

I upgraded from the 7th gen and chose the 11” over the larger iPP because it fits in the RAM mount on my truck. i like to use off road and offline navigation apps to record tracks and waypoints when I’m out & about.

I've decided, if there isn't anything special at WWDC solely for the iPad Pro's

Then I'll be returning the 12.9 (and Logitech Keyboard/case), which I still have in the house

Spent just shy of £1800 on this iPad, and now could easily go back to my 11" 2018.

Very interesting stats, essentially ~42% for the 11” and 56% for the 12.9 (no surprise given this may attract more of the pro 12.9 users). All good feedback!!
Seems the 12.9’s are sold out everywhere here in the USA, any pointers where to get one?

I ordered one (512GB WiFi 12.9) from local Apple store here in Seattle on Tuesday this week and picked it up the next day. The store website said unavailable but the Apple Store app said it was so I ordered through it. Took my old 12.9 in for an in-store trade-in.

Yeah but you can’t order them if they are sold out:)

I just canceled my order for the new 12.9" iPad pro. I have the 2018 version, and with my use, I don't think it's worth upgrading even though I was going to get over $500 for trading in the older machine. When I read all the reviews carefully, it looks to me as if the new iPad wouldn't make much difference for me. I don't see movies on it -- mainly use it for simple things, and apparently the screen isn't very different unless you're looking at hi-res videos. I think it makes more sense to wait until next year to upgrade.

I jumped on the 12.9”IPP band wagon last year from the 2018 11‘ IPP, I liked the screen size and the experience in general. Naturally I gravitated towards the 12.9 M1 and it’s a keeper:). As regards the portability factor , I guess I’d find out when travelling resumes fully. For now it’s a perfect home buddy/secondary device to my soon to arrive M1 iMac

It’s best to keep checking on the Apple Store app as its very accurate with the in-store stock levels for pick up orders. Also, if the model you want is not available, it will also show similar models that are available in other stores near your location.

Hey mate, just done my return over the phone, great customer service as always by apple, getting it picked up by a courier, apple will send you a return number via email, no need for a second box or printing a receipt.

Write the return numbers on the iPad boxes you’re returning and then wait for the courier. ?

Says to keep the email with the return number as proof.

I’m keeping my iPad. I was in apple store snd they told me the blooming is normal, I disagree. They did a hard reset on my iPad. Can’t see problems in a brightly lit store lol. However they asked me to wait a month for them to work on and iron out bugs. Apparently the blooming is software related. I remember seeing big bloom on original 14.5 OS, then when I updated to 14.5.1 it was much less blooming. Then the blooming came back again with 14.6. I will give them 1 month to work out the bugs, then if I still have issue they will send me a replacement right away. Thankfully I have apple care +.
Don't listen to the store employees and definitely don't wait longer than the length of your return window to take action. If you are unhappy with the iPad, you should return it. If Apple makes an announcement later on about the display and any normal behavior with the blooming effect, you make another purchase.

Well, considering they did a factory reset using their MacBook, it seems that the software update didn’t remove the old ones properly causing the glitching and blooming. Right now at a low 20-50% brightness, I do not see any blooming at all. Only when I have brightness higher than 50% do I start seeing the blooming. Much much better than it was. Or watching that HDR video that get so bright, I need to stay quite far back to not be blinded by the higher nit brightness. And I love the iPad. Even the games look amazing on it. This iPad is a keeper now!!

So, it turns out I can’t have Apple arrange collection for my return and I have to do it in store. The reason being it wasn't a web order as I got the new iPads over the launch weekend and cancelled my pre-orders which took longer to arrive. The good news is the return dates will be extended by the lockdown time, essentially giving me another 2 weeks to use both sizes and decide on which one to eventually return. At this moment, I have decided to keep the 12.9 and return the 11.

Nice!!! Got a even better outcome in the end. ??

Agree with keeping the 12.9” the screen is stunning and that big screen is great for media consumption and browsing the web.

They’re very laid back at apple, told me to write the return number on the packaging, I was like is it fine if I write it on the actual magic keyboard packaging, his like sure. Lol

I'd like some recommendations. I'm a Mac-guy, but since I started gaming a bit, I sold my MBP and got myself parts and built myself a stationary gaming PC. The only thing "computer-wise" other than that I have is my iPhone. According to you, should I get a 11" or 12,9"? It will be my only portable "computer/device/ipad".

If it’s your only portable device go with the big boy, the 11” screen might feel a little small over time.
