Might not have a lot of options left....

China has no good options for retaliating against Trump’s Huawei ban
Veteran diplomat Hosuk Lee-Makiyama asks pointedly, “What does China have left to retaliate with?” It’s already imposed tariffs on the few classes of goods for which it wants to protect its internal market, and it’s excluded American internet giants like Google and Facebook, so what can China realistically threaten to do as a counter measure? Some observers, such as Ben Thompson in Stratechery, note that “China took the first shots” in the present trade war when it threw out many US tech firms, and it is now the US who is finally responding.

America don’t care about South Korea. It’s a small country and can’t in anyway threaten their dominance. They are also allies with South Korea and have been since the end of the Korean War. South Korea rely on the US for protection.

All i am saying is Google can pull the plug if Samsung killed pixels. Google is not happy with Samsung's massive success at the expense of Google's OS.

Not sure what contract they have each other but nothing is guaranteed when it comes to business.

Which means nothing considering they now use Nano SD cards. lol

They still use MicroSD in a lot of their low end devices. Both the 2019 versions of Huawei Y7 and PSmart 2019 use MicroSD.

But yeah, going forward I think they will begin using Nano SD even in their low ends after all this.

As I mentioned before, even big players like Xiaomi, LG, Asus, Oppo aren't SD Association members.

Being a member has nothing to do with whether Huawei can release a phone with SD support.
Doesn't matter anyways. Until they are allowed to be back in business with the US, I'm out with them.
Our household does have a Mate SE and will continue to use it but won't buy any others til or if this is ever lifted.

This is what's it's going to be like for the next few months, messy. Plenty of false reporting out there as well. Saw a newspaper article today saying Google had backed the US government by refusing to work with Huawei (or words to that effect).

This video talks a lot about the misinformation being spread

Another one surfaces....

Huawei executive accused of stealing trade secrets from microchip company backed by Microsoft and Dell

CNEX has alleged that a Huawei deputy chairman, Eric Xu, directed an employee to pose as a potential customer and submit a report on his findings in order to obtain trade secrets for the company’s chip research and development department.

CNEX also claims Huawei had ties with China’s Xiamen University, and misappropriated trade secrets through that relationship.

Wouldn’t there be a way to side load the google play store onto future Huwawei phones?
I think you can side load them. But when it connects to the Playstore it will do a device verification of some sort to determine what apps need updates and so forth. I wonder if it will identified as a Huawei device and get blacklisted?

I’m just wondering because I have a kindle fire HD with the playstore side loaded and it works fine. I can download apps and they update automatically. It was really easy to do. So I wonder if the same could be done for future Huwawei phones.

It can probably be done and then spoof the user agent.

Guys at XDA will sort it out. They could probably set it to look as if it’s a older verified Huawei device or something else.

There will be ways around this, the Rooting community will make plans, but won’t be conducive for average user.

I think if it is as straight forward as the way I sideloaded the play store onto my kindle fire (downloading and installing APKs) then I think it’s achievable for a lot of people.

I imagine it could be done pretty easy as well to any Huawei device. But they are all blacklisted so there would have to be something to get around that. But who knows in a few months time there might be a hack or work around :)

Well if the p30 happened to drop to say £300 or less then I could buy one for the cameras alone and just forget about it getting anymore software updates.

I’d imagine there will be a hack, there always is with non Apple devices. However if it requires rooting it something equally complicated then most wouldn’t even attempt it.

The prices for Huawei phones have been dropping dramatically on Swappa.

That is a great point.....most will not even try anything too involved like rooting.

[Update: It’s back] Huawei Mate 20 Pro removed from Google’s Android Q Beta page
Update 5/30: As silently as it was removed, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has just re-appeared on Google’s Android Q Beta page. The device just came back just this morning in the same spot it was before the removal. Presumably, this has to do with the 90-day general license Huawei was granted to continue working on its existing products. This is probably a good sign that not only is work continuing on the beta, but that current Huawei devices might be updated.

Here’s a thought, with Google not wanting to lose Huawei and Huawei requiring Google software, could Google be helping Huawei gain access to Google Play Store in a sort of Loophole with their new OS? I would not be surprised if they are working out some sort of workaround that would benefit both companies, icy like how Google develops iOS versions of their apps, they may do Huawei OS ones and find a way to deliver support and give access to Play Store through a loophole, maybe using a 3rd party or some other type of method

Would really love to see how they are trying to work it all out
