Can you recognize & name this second landmark?

Bonus points if you know what this landmark's name was prior to 1977.

musée d'orsay, it used to be a train station

Since a lot of people are posting skyline shots, I thought I'd post some of possibly the most underrated skyline in America, and since the thread is about landmarks, the last picture is from the nearby Falling Water.

Being from the NYC area, and recently moving to the 'burgh 'en 'nat, I couldn't agree with you more, there are some wonderful skyline shots and the view from the Fort Pitt bridge coming into the city is stunning.

Go Steelers! :D

regarding fallingwater, which is about 35 min south of Pittsburgh, it is a worthwhile trip for anyone in the area, Wright was a true visionary and genius. [also check out Kentuckknob, another Wright original about 10 min away]

I really dig his style. If I were a billionaire, I know where a few [truck loads] of my Jackson's would go.

Oscar Wilde's Tomb in Pere Lachaise Cemetry in Paris :D

in case you didn't know...it's called 'prairie style'. also a similar style is called 'american bungalow'

when you do get all those jackson's or benjamin's there are several architects out there that incorporate Wright's aesthetic into their work.

there's also a cool magazine called 'american bungalow' which I think you would like...

One I took in Barcelona in the summer of La Sagrada Familia. I took a film camera, so it's a shocking scan, sorry.

argh, I was going to post that! But I did a bit of Photoshop work to get rid of the cranes...

excellent point...I was in Bergen, 1990, and they had the best beer, made locally, can't think of the name. Absolutely beautiful! [the city that is  ]

Why is there no snow in Norway?
Plenty of snow, elsewhere in Norway... It's just that here at the west coast it's mild and usually wet, so even if we get the occasional snow day the snow rarely last very long... :)

Here's an image from Norway's capital, Oslo, just last week... people skiing to work... very similar to images I've seen from NYC the last couple of days... ;)

Hansa, maybe...?

Disclaimer: The beer bottle on the image above is a non-alcoholic beer, because ads for alcolholoc beverages is not allowed in Norway...

Edit: He-he, nearly missed a geeky reference: This was my post number 5152, which is very suiting when discussing Bergen, since 5152 is my zip code... :) I'm such a geek... :( :p

No, if it was a local brewery, then it's just the one:

<-- This almost counts as a landmark here in Bergen... so we're still on topic... ;)

Great... now I'm thirsty... :p

There was an exhibit many years ago at the Smithsonian of FLW's "affordable" housing concept. I really liked it.

Am I really the first one here to post the greatest landmark of all?! ;)

This is the Salt Lake store, and that's my wife with our two-month old in the stroller. :D

This is a great thread! Hopefully I can post a few more pictures tomorrow sometime.

Cheers!

thanks, me too...:)

ok, then I guess that was it...is it available in the U.S.? I'll look around...boy, the type III beer really kicked me in the butt, not accustomed to that stuff here in the states.

also, we took a three hour boat tour of the sourjourn [sp?] fjord, took 3 rolls of film. [will post some pics when I can]

Sognefjorden, maybe... :)

Awesome scenery... I'll see if I have some images from up there... Edit: Nah... couldn't find any... (Now, where did I put those...?)

yes, that's it! some of my pictures are the same as the site...and yes, we drove to Skjolden or that's where we landed...

I loved touring Sweden, Iceland, and Norway, the highlights were the fjords, the Orrefors glass factory tour, the gold room in Stockholm, and the artist who carves stone into people intertwined [again, can't remember the name]. The people were all so nice, and the women were so beautiful.

my only gripes with Scandanavia are:

* breakfast [especially orange juice]
* the huge liquor and cigarrette tax
* the ultra short days in the winter

otherwise, I would move there in a second...

Love the overall contrasts in color an tome in that one.

Thanks. I took it a few days after learning about warm/cold colour combinations. A little advice can make a huge difference. :)

Here's a couple pictures taken from the top of the Empire State Building.

The first one is looking South with a 1.5 second exposure.

The second one is looking North and is actually four pictures that I put together to form the panoramic.

I had these printed, that's why I have the border around them.
