The fact that it's a fixie. Why don't you like running a geared setup? Too expensive? Too complicated to upkeep (ie too many things that could fail)? Except for Sheldon Brown; he had a bunch of fixies and he could make fixies seem cool (RIP Sheldon
You sir, have a very nice bike there.
Well--here's kind of how it happened...
My dad gave me his fx, because he could no longer ride it due to medical issues. This was my jumpstart into fitness and back into bikes after having been out for many years. I enjoyed riding it but it didn't feel like "me". I don't enjoy having gears and also wished it was more a trail bike than the hybrid/fitness bike that it is.
So...I started toying with the idea of a single speed mountain bike. It appealed to me because although I'm mechanically inclined (somewhat) I don't have near the tools needed to do some of the maintenance and the closest bike shop is an hour away (by car). Was looking at many, but most that I liked were $800+ and the wife said no. I started thinking also, that I rarely ride the trails and they usually aren't too difficult, so why do I need a mtnbike capable of so much? I still liked the single speed aspect so I started looking around.
Did NOT like the premade rainbow fixies (as I like to call them)
that were really expensive for what they were (hi-ten, low grade parts). So I kept looking, and came across the Urbis. It is kind of a cross, almost fits into the bmx category which I used to ride but is sized more for me and also is very "clean" looking. I loved the fact that it had a disc brake and was chromoly. And when I found out I could get this one at almost half the cost, I went for it. Have only put about $40 bucks into it making it "mine".
The wife now rides the fx on the weekends with me. I ride in and around my neighborhood and surrounding areas, every day. I don't ride with a "group", I don't have cyclist friends and I just ride for me. No one even sees me ride except old people on their porch or kids playing outside.
It's set up ss right now, because I'm still learning to feel confident on it like I did on the fx. I have tried the fixie thing and want to try again, but just for me, not for anyone else. And yes, Sheldon Brown was amazing.
