I was put under when I had mine taken out. I woke up in the middle of the procedure to the crunching sound my teeth made when they were broken and to the sight of A LOT of debris shooting out of my mouth. That and the dentist jerking my head around like a rag doll didn't make the process any less painful.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. (I never use caps, but I needed to provide extreme emphasis)

I remember looking up and seeing the oral surgeon standing up on my chair yanking on some pliers in my mouth.

Then waking up with my mouth packed with gauze. I lost almost 15lbs because I couldn't open my mouth to eat solid food.

The side benefit of having your wisdom teeth pulled are that I can now save some bits/chunks of food in the two big pits where my bottom molars used to be in case I get hungry later in the day.

Sounds like every other person I've talked to about this. I'm wondering if there are any cliffs nearby that I can drive off of.

To be honest Krafty, I consider myself to be somewhat of a wimp when it comes to pain, but I had four teeth taken out in one shot when I was around 16 because I had too many coming in.

It's really not that big a deal, if you're properly novocained, there isn't any pain, it's just a slightly odd experience hearing the sound and watching the dentist profusely sweating whilst using his leg as leverage to yank teeth out of your mouth.

I got this intercom app for my iPod touch. Sorta neat.
I am a little mad, the first one I got did nothing but this seems to be better. Can I get a refund on an app? IMG_0053.PNG

Yes, this is about an accurate a description as you can have when pulling teeth. I particularly like when the dentist has to cradle your head when yanking out a tooth to make sure you don't suffer any whiplash from the jerking motion :D

Have fun at the dentist Krafty ;)

If you don't floss for a week you get the same benefit as well :D

Take it easy. Photography is about taking pictures and developing (no pun intended) an interest and a skill. There is no point in buying a lot of expensive stuff if you have no idea what to do with it.

Wait with additional purchases until you know what kind of photographer you actually are. That way, you can spend money on one or two things you know you'll use instead of buying ten things you think you'll use. That means you can get proper gear instead of getting half assed versions of everything.

Drooling over stuff is fine, just don't be stupid with your money is what I'm trying to say. You'll be happier with one awesome lens than three or four meh-ones, despite it might taking you having to stick to the kit lens for a year or two before knowing that you're ready to make the purchase.

Yeah, i get what you mean. I'm not wasting money on expensive stuff right off the bat. Just learning everything first. But i am buying some cheaper items and basic stuff. I need to get a Class 10 32 GB card for video, a decent camera bag, etc. I bought the shutter release and an LCD cover for $10 combined on Amazon. There is a cheap macro lens that i've seen a lot of good reviews on as well. Only $75 for it. Here's the LCD cover:

Its really not that bad. Mine hurt a little for about an hour after the procedure and then I was fine. Went to a water park the next day.

Water park would help forget all my troubles...

I'm not too afraid of the dentist, I actually had to get 2 root canals done, I just hate going there, and dreading it this time. I had one teeth pulled but I was very young. They said they were gonna put me to sleep for the entire procedure, but we're still trying to figure out where to get it done (since my dad lives up north and my mom down south) that wont rape my parents wallets too hard.

The experience for wisdom teeth can vary greatly. It has to do with the part of the tooth under the gums. usually the top ones come right out and the bottoms ones are the annoying ones to remove. I had mine done twilight. your awake basically but could care less what they are doing. i felt no pain only pressure. they gave me perkasets for pain after but i never took them i didnt need them. the thing i remember the most really is alot of bleeding even after the gums were stitched.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, their experiences are the exception, not the norm.

I had mine out when I was 18. I didn't wake up once, I don't have empty holes in my mouth and I was able to eat solid food in three days with zero pain.

Of course this depends on how old you are/ how far in your wisdom teeth are (and how good your dentist is/ if you go to an actual dentist :p). IIRC, you're suppose to have them out when you're younger, before they actually come in.

Generally you are better off going to an oral surgeon vs a dentist. I needed three removed, one of which was severely impacted with the root around the tooth and the other two slightly impacted.

The surgeon warned me that there was a possibility for permanent numbness to the face because of something to do with the nerves and such so I was kind of scared going in....

But she was awesome and not only did I have no pain after the surgery (even though they had to cut two of the teeth out) but I had minimal bleeding and no facial numbness!

I was almost 100% back to normal the same day as the surgery.

Yeah, thats who I'm meeting with on Monday to get a quote, so I'm gonna have it done by them, just not sure where yet.

Go to Poland or something. Probably still gonna run you less than doing it in the states (airfare included), and it's not like they're doing it third world style...

The problem with that is if we had to money to travel I'd end up going somewhere in Asia for something totally unrelated to dental work.

As a dentist, it's really interesting to read all these 3rd-molar-extraction stories ;). Good luck, Krafty. You'll be just fine.
