Picked up one of these for $15 not knowing it would work or not and IT WORKS just the 2.4ghz antenna is utter crap on it and the 5ghz one isn't too much better but I haven't found a router with great 5ghz coverage
WNDR3700_RN.jpg

But luckily I purchased a Netgear WN2000RPT about a year ago that works great with it.

Also picked up a NETGEAR 5 GHz Wireless-N HD Access Point/Bridge (WNHDE111)

to extend the 5ghz radio on the router.

This router lets me seemlessly stream 1080p video from my Seagate network drive connected to the router to my Samsung UN60D7050.

Also got a great deal on this 7.1 reciever ($100)

How much and where did you buy this N9. Watching amazon and two weeks back it was 450 ish, but now back to 499.

I bought one locally. White. For $515 unlocked. Sealed open but unused. Its nice but nothing compared to the iphone. But makes nice backp and overseas phone.

Remote shutter release for the Canon i just got. I know there are a lot of DSLR owners here, anything else i should buy for the T2i/550D?

Prepare for a world of hurt as this is probably one of the most expensive hobbies to pick up :D

50mm 1.8, as an earlier poster mentioned, is a good idea. Inexpensive and quite a good lens for the price. Perhaps you could also pick up a 55-250 lens if you need some extra reach. I won't even go into the tripods/bags/memory cards/flash(es)/dust rocket/filters/etc that you'll eventually want to get. If you want a kick ass lens and have some change to spare, the 17-55 f/2.8 lens is awesome. I use it on my T3i

Photography one of the most expensive hobbies to pick up? Please elaborate. I would claim it's actually pretty cheap when you think about it. A lens for five hundred bucks could last you literally decades, and if you buy your kit second hand, you won't really lose that much money - only tie it up.

The initial investment for a decent kit is high but to your point, it will last a very long time. The true expense lies within the photographer who commands frequent upgrades whereby they're losing money in the long run.

Yes, it's high. But your average skier will spend more on the yearly ski trip than your average hobby photographer will all year. One of them can only enjoy it for a week, the other one all year round...

Man, even playing video games is a more expensive hobby than photography ;)

Take it easy. Photography is about taking pictures and developing (no pun intended) an interest and a skill. There is no point in buying a lot of expensive stuff if you have no idea what to do with it.

Wait with additional purchases until you know what kind of photographer you actually are. That way, you can spend money on one or two things you know you'll use instead of buying ten things you think you'll use. That means you can get proper gear instead of getting half assed versions of everything.

Drooling over stuff is fine, just don't be stupid with your money is what I'm trying to say. You'll be happier with one awesome lens than three or four meh-ones, despite it might taking you having to stick to the kit lens for a year or two before knowing that you're ready to make the purchase.

The series only gets better. I am currently on 'A Feast For Crows'. Enjoy!

I can't wait to they arrive tomorrow. I'm currently finishing up The Inheritance. I have a lot of reading of ahead (which I enjoy). Preordered "I suck at girls".

"***** my dad says" was a good book as well.
