You set it up like that. Depending on what Android you have you can setup Calendar widgets, Task widgets, News widgets and weather widgets.

I don't know if it's your thing but turning off the text under the icons would make it look even better imo, I wish stock standard Samsung UX would allow me to do that.
I don't mind not having the text under icons on the dock. Everywhere else I pretty much want the text. I change icons often and sometimes, at a glance, it's easier with the labels.
Made this SB widget for JB iPhone a few years ago. Just converted it to KLWP this morning for my S9+. Theme icons is Arc.
