just 2 weeks since the 24" imac hit my desk. Wow!

Can't believe I stuck out on the windoze for so long. Even when I bought the mac I was still thinking I'd boot camp straight away when I got home and have a comfort zone for when I couldn't figure something out.

Still haven't done it yet, and I don't need to. Everything is easy to figure out and 9/10 times its far easier/better than the wintel box I nearly axed (literally) so many times.

Couldn't be happier

Ordered my 20" iMac this morning, tense feeling! I had no idea there was a .mac promo with it too, so I added that too, not to mention the students free iPod Nano! hot!

2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo
500GB Hard Drive
.mac

£928! (and then take off £99 when I get my iPod rebate)

how much would a sealed 4GB iPod nano fetch on eBay / marketplace?

Why are people getting 2.8 Core 2 Extremes? What kind of work are you doing on these machines? Certainly it isn't anything graphic or photography related with a glossy display, no?

I'm using my 2,8 ghz one for graphic design/illustration using Adobe CS2 for now, a little Cinema 4D and a some gaming (mostly WoW).

I'm a freelance designer and you could well call my uses professional. I have a dual 2,3 ghz G5 with an 21" Eizo monitor at work though, and a pb G4 for the road.

The 24" iMacs display isn't too bad for gfx design, after a little software calibration and turning the brightness way down. If color is crucial for certain jobs you have to order proofs anyway.

Why I didn't buy a mac pro? Well since I do about 60-70% of the work I do at the office, a mac pro would be wasted money at home. Apart from that you don't need the power of 4 cores for regular gfx design anyway. AND I still have an almost 10 years old tv that I plan to replace with the iMac+eyetv after 3 years of regular usage.

When I get mine in October (with Leopard on it), I'll be using it for high-def home video editing, organzing my 200 hrs of home SD video in iMovie, organizing my 14,000 photos in iPhoto, playing my 18,000 songs in iTunes, and ripping and transcoding a lot of video to send to my Tivo and my iPod.

Definetely getting the 2.8 iMac. Not getting a Mac Pro because The same RAM, HD and screen would run me into $1500 more.

Last 2 weeks, while shopping for a 24" LCD... I walk by the Apple retail shop.

Then it just happened  ....love at the first sight for that 24" IMAC.... immediately bring one home from Apple retail shop. :D

Yup, I'm new to Mac world.

I ordered a 2.8GHz with 4GBs of RAM and a 750GB HDD (+1.3TB Firewire800) ... I plan on using mine for semi-pro photography (I do weddings on occasion), but I've got a Spyder2Pro to take care of calibration. I'm not terribly concerned about the glossy display after actually using the new iMac at a retail store a few times. When I first heard about it, I was upset - but after having actually used one, I really think it's a non-issue.

Anyway, I figured the 2.8GHz C2E + 4GB RAM would help out with large, multi-layered Photoshop documents, as well as the HD video editing I plan on dabbling with in Final Cut Studio 2 (which I also have) ... I would've loved a Mac Pro, but that would have set me back an additional $1,500, which I can't justify at this point in time. ;)

I purchased the 24" 2.4ghz imac a couple of weeks ago and have been re-invigorated in terms of using my computer. I love the screen, the colours, the packaged software and have also been quite impressed with iWork given how cheap it is. Am enjoying being a new addition to the mac community.

I "upgraded" from a first gen Intel (early 2006) 20" Core Duo iMac to a 24" aluminum 2.4GHz iMac and love it. It's fast, nearly silent and beautiful.

The screen is big and crisp and great for watching 1080P HD movies and TV.

Even for the few games I play in Vista (Boot Camp) it serves more than adequately.

It is the best all around computer I've ever owned.

Woof!

Love it.... couldn't be happier. Went from a Mac Pro to iMac 2.8 GHz for my home machine. No regrets whatsoever!

I am in love with my  It's the best computer I have ever owned. From the ease of use to the beautiful screen, everything just screams perfection. The other day, I used my Windows PC for the first time in a while and it locked up on me. That was a stark reminder of why fruit is good for you.

I got mine to edit HD video with FCS2.

And I LOVE my iMac :D

Love mine as well. I'm a software developer...have been my entire professional career. Always on Wintel. Got my new 24" Aluminum iMac the day they came out. It just rocks. OS X is soooooo much better than Vista. The display is awesome, the built in apps are cool. And when I'm forced to run Windows for work stuff I just fire up VMWare Fusion.

Can't see ever going back to a Windows only machine.

I really enjoy my new iMac too..... although it can't compete with my Mac Pro, of course. The iMac and Mac Pro are in different leagues, I guess.

Just got my 24" delivered to work about 30 mins ago. Couldn't resist - opened it up and sat it on the desk just to admire it. Drew gasps like "ooh" and "aah" from all my colleagues who walked through my department while it was out. Only problem is I've got 3 hours more work before I go home and fire it up! I love it and I haven't even used the damn thing yet ;)

I love my 24" iMac extreme but I'm starting to hate Apple as a company.

Well it's better than hating Microsoft as well as their products. :D

Enjoy your new beauty but just remember that Apple is a company and just like any other company they are not your friend, you're just a consumer and the more you understand that concept the better you will feel about the company.

Love this thread!

Got my 20" iMac last night - upgraded from an 867Mhz 12" PowerBook. The difference is just night and day. This machine is AMAZING! It's the 2.4Ghz model, with a BTO 500GB HDD and 3GB of RAM (non-Apple RAM obviously!). The screen is perfect with no colour problems. It's just insanely great. I'll be using it for general home computing as well as Indesign and World of Warcraft - I've got WoW up and running and am getting about 30-40 fps in Outland with every single video setting on full (even full screen glow). I haven't tried Indesign yet but layout on a 20" screen compared with my old 12" is going to be a revelation.

Just one massive big huge amazing WOW. The best computer I have ever bought.

Almost had my 24" iMac for 2 months now and I have to say its been a pleasure.
No dead pixels, no complaints about OMG! the glossy! No lock-ups. Just pure computational goodness!
