i can't think of a laptop i'd rather have, but honestly the problems i suspect could lead me to get the computer replaced in the near future if they persist. we'll see... as it stands now the problems i have are seamingly common. the 2 main problems are...

unevenlight.jpg

it only shows up against blacks really but it's bad, i intend to do something about it but i'm not sure i trust the people who fix these machines any more than i trusted the build quality in the first place. i knew full well going into it that the panels were kinda shotty so it doesn't really bother me that much. the first mention of a new panel on these systems and i'll most likely figure out how to gaurantee i get one if i bring it in for replacement... also there are about 10 dead pixels on the top left hand corner.

one thing i've notice also is, it is very easy to accidentally cover the vents when you sorta laying down on a couch. this is a very odd feature for a laptop. in OS X it works pretty much fine always and never gets SUPER hot. while in XP, it gets far too hot. hopefully the supported boot camp will address the issue, but i doubt it. i feel very uncomfortble with how hot the computer can get in certain applications, like games. it's not a deal-breaker, but it's an issue nonetheless.

the amount of awesome things the computer does far outweigh the problems, but i'm not 100% certain the honeymoon will last, i could see problems due to build quality effecting the comp in the future.

I have neither a macbook nor a macbook pro. Instead, I have a PowerBook G4, which has stood the test of time. I continue to be very happy with the overall performance of my computer and its reliable service.

I was given a Core2Duo MacBook (sig) three days ago for my birthday :D and I'm really impressed with it. It is smaller than I expected, the resolution is fine for light tasks, the glossy screen is actually pretty nice, the performance is awesome, and the most impressive part - the gaming performance is better than I expected  UT2004 (DM-Rankin with 3 godlike bots @ 800x500, everything max) runs at 30-40+ FPS

The MB is light, I love the glowing Apple on the lid and it doesnt get as hot as people on these forums posted :)

Well I am happy with my MBP, but I have had some problems with it. Its going in for a logic board replacement this week. I sure yours will be fine. If not I would assume its under warranty, so take advantage!

I love my blackbook. My only issue is lack of ram, but that's not apples fault it's me being a cheap skate. :p

I have a 17" core 2 duo MBP. The dang thing whines (high pitch noise). I only detect it when there is no ambient noise, but when I do it annoys the hell out of me. That's my only gripe with the system.

I'll be honest... mine had a ton of problems, most of which Apple probably would have fixed for me had I not opened my machine fifteen times to work on WUXGA display mods (their actual argument for not fixing it was that the case was not aligned properly which was because the topcase was falling apart).

Problems:
- Super hot (fixed myself w/ Arctic Silver thermal paste re-app)
- Right side case fan died (fixed myself... cost $40 from iFixit)
- Left palm rest had "pitting" problem (case deterioration)
- Right side of the topcase started peeling apart (both this problem and above problem were fixed by buying a new topcase on eBay... had to buy two, the first had a bad ribbon cable connector for the keyboard)
- Random Shutdown Syndrome (fixed myself, moved a piece of tape from above a wire to below a wire on the heat pipe)
- CPU/Screen Whine (unable to fix myself :/ )

So yeah... after all the problems, I do have a machine that I absolutely love. Hands down I would not be happy with any other laptop after using this one. I have *sort of* considered buying a Sony VAIO 13.3" w/ built in EDGE... but I doubt that's gonna happen.

All I could ask for is a little bit more forgiving AppleCare and a lot better manufacturing to begin with. It's fairly unreasonable that so many problems occurred to begin with, even if after all my work it turned out great.

I was one of the first to get (post here anyways) the new C2D MacBook Pro.

I had no issues, still do not, and never intend to look back.

get one, you will be pleased.

Very Happy.

Can't help it but every time I go to a lecture and see all those people with their bulky, heavy Dell or other PC brand machines, I always get the largest smirk/grin on my face. :D

Not to mention it just works.

(MacBook Pro, Core Duo 2.16Ghz, 256MB Mobility X1600 and 2GB of ram).

Yuck. Don't hesitate--send that in to get fixed--you definitely don't need to live with that. That would drive me crazy when viewing anything dark...

The first one I had for six trouble-free months before passing it on to a friend. This was replaced with a C2D that has been just as good for the passed three-and-a-half months.

I've only had my MB for < 1 week. It's funny because I'm much more a desktop person, I just prefer using desktops except after only having this machine for a week, I'm already starting to change my mind. (And yes, I've had other fantastic lappies, 12" PB and the latest revision 12" iBook.)

Interestingly enough, I swear, the MB's display is brighter than my iMac G5's! And I did think the glossy screen might take awhile to get used to, but honestly, it hasn't fazed me at all.

All this new hardware joy aside, I'd love to vote 'very happy' but sometimes my trackpad gets a little quirky... debating whether or not to bother bringing it in for a Genius to take a look at it.

May I ask why you just didn't get Apple to fix these issues to begin with?? Instead of opening it up yourself? and voiding your warranty?

I've had this MBP since June and it's freaking great. Not a single problem the entire time I've owned it.

House Full!

When my two kids' iBooks came up for replacement, I bought 2 2gig MacBooks for them and a BlackBook for me! Dad has to be the coolest you know. That was in November, and not a problem with any of them. My wife has a 17" MacBook Pro for work, and it has been trouble free also. The MacBooks are Core2Duo and her MBP is a CoreDuo, and she has noticed my MB is faster than her MBP in MS Word and Excel! I have recommended the MB and MBP to several people, and those who took my advice are very happy. I know my MB will be a trusty companion for many years, just like my 12" PB was my constant companion for the last three and a half years.:D

I've only had mine for 2 weeks so it really doesn't count when I say this but... I love it but will not say whether I am trouble free for fear of being jinxed! :D

Wow, it's great to see somebody so full of confidence. If I had even a fraction of your confidence in my 17" MBP I'd be content but after having trouble with various MBPs and macbooks for a year, it will take months of flawless computing to regain any confidence in an Apple machine. Having said that, my MBP has no problems whatsoever except for a second-rate display.

I am a gadget freak and love to try out new things. I've had around 7 laptops in the first 9 months of last year (2006):
4x HP dv series
1x tc tablet
1x toshiba
1x LG Ultra portable

Sept 2006, I got myself a white macbook (1.83/1gb/60gb/cdr) and never got another laptop. I just can't find another real reason for myself to do so. Only thing I could of asked for is a higher resolution screen and a better casing. (Had a 12" powerbook back in 2004 and loved the aluminum)

So in Jan 2007, my desk got a new friend - Macbook Pro 15.4" :) It was mintly/slightly used by my friend - 2.0Ghz Core Duo/2Gb ram/160GB HD/ATI X1600 256MB.
mbp.jpg

I have never looked at any PC laptops again since Sept 2006. There are just so much that PC Laptops can't offer. If you need to convince yourself more, watch these: http://www.apple.com/ca/getamac/ads/

Enjoy your new MB/MBP.

refurb mbp

i bought a refurbished macbook pro (core duo) from apple in december, and it has been flawless. was a little worried that i might have problems associated with the early models, but i've had none. it doesn't whine or get too hot, everything works perfectly. it's a joy to use.
