Yuck. Don't hesitate--send that in to get fixed--you definitely don't need to live with that. That would drive me crazy when viewing anything dark...the 2 main problems are...
I'll be honest... mine had a ton of problems, most of which Apple probably would have fixed for me had I not opened my machine fifteen times to work on WUXGA display mods (their actual argument for not fixing it was that the case was not aligned properly which was because the topcase was falling apart).
Problems:
- Super hot (fixed myself w/ Arctic Silver thermal paste re-app)
- Right side case fan died (fixed myself... cost $40 from iFixit)
- Left palm rest had "pitting" problem (case deterioration)
- Right side of the topcase started peeling apart (both this problem and above problem were fixed by buying a new topcase on eBay... had to buy two, the first had a bad ribbon cable connector for the keyboard)
- Random Shutdown Syndrome (fixed myself, moved a piece of tape from above a wire to below a wire on the heat pipe)
- CPU/Screen Whine (unable to fix myself :/ )
So yeah... after all the problems, I do have a machine that I absolutely love. Hands down I would not be happy with any other laptop after using this one. I have *sort of* considered buying a Sony VAIO 13.3" w/ built in EDGE... but I doubt that's gonna happen.
All I could ask for is a little bit more forgiving AppleCare and a lot better manufacturing to begin with. It's fairly unreasonable that so many problems occurred to begin with, even if after all my work it turned out great.
When my two kids' iBooks came up for replacement, I bought 2 2gig MacBooks for them and a BlackBook for me! Dad has to be the coolest you know. That was in November, and not a problem with any of them. My wife has a 17" MacBook Pro for work, and it has been trouble free also. The MacBooks are Core2Duo and her MBP is a CoreDuo, and she has noticed my MB is faster than her MBP in MS Word and Excel! I have recommended the MB and MBP to several people, and those who took my advice are very happy. I know my MB will be a trusty companion for many years, just like my 12" PB was my constant companion for the last three and a half years.![]()
