Mac Mini (M1)
27" Asus PA27AC
2560x1440@75Hz
Connected through Thunderbolt cable

If I had a laptop it would be able to charge it through the TB cable with 45 W.

No one using 144hz (or higher) displays?

I want to get a 27" 1440p display w/144hz (or higher) refresh. What is the highest refresh rate that the HDMI port will support @ 1440p? (or USB-C port if monitor has USB-C displayport input)?

Actually, you can use multiple stardock USB to HDMI Adapters to run additional 4K Monitors next to your main external display.
Those USB video adapters don't support Graphics Acceleration, so they really aren't useful for anything. The rendering is done with software rather than graphics hardware, so it'll run like garbage.

M1 MBA & Dell U2719DC. Works fine although MBA does not boot when i hook it up to the display. I have to open the MBA to let it start, close it and connect. My Intel MBP just boots when i hook it up to the monitor in clamshell mode.

I have this same monitor. It works plugged in directly, or through an HP Thunderbolt Dock (which is the only way I can get the LG display to work properly with my Coffee Lake Windows PC that I use for work).
Thanks for sharing this. Am clueless about some kind of dock for my upcoming M1 + LG 5K display. Unless someone else chimes in with a better solution, this HP dock in my pick.

M1 MBA (closed up) w/ an Eizo EV2785 (4k) via USB-C. Was using it with my 2017 MB and as a USB hub for keyboard, mouse, and USB audio. Seems to work ok with the M1 except when waking from sleep -- when I press a key the speakers pop and keyboard reinitializes, then I have to press a key again to wake the computer. That didn't happen with the MB.

Dell P2715Q Works great, colors etc.. great. Its a 4K 27inch monitor.
Is that with a USB-C/TB3 to DP cable or straight HDMI? I ask because I have 2 P2715Q’s and want to make sure they work both ways. Of course, if you have a MBA or MBP, then I know my answer ;)

Anyone get dual 27” Apple Thunderbolt displays to work daisy-chained yet with a thunderbolt to USB c apple adapter?

Currently using this setup on my MacBook Pro 15” 2017

One of the big important unknowns is the external support.
At the moment it is unclear for a lot of people what external display will work with the new arm based M1 Apple chips.

Maybe it is a good idea that people here on this forum post their setup that is working.
I don’t want to start a topic about 2 external screens as we don’t know what screens will perform with M1 chips.

Is it possible to post your working setup?
- what Mac are you using?
- do you use a docing station or not?
- what screen do you use: manufacturer, type, inch, ha, ...
- a photo is welcome :)

what I want to know: are bigger screens working working with a MacBook Pro like:
- dell u3419w (60 hz)
- dell u4320q (60 hz)
- lg 34wk95u (60 hz)
- others

Working:
  1. MacBook Pro M1 with 16GB of Memory
  2. Anker PowerExpand+ USB-C to HDMI (model A8312)
  3. HP 23" display (model 23cw)
The external display connects flawlessly and works in any state. From powered on hot swap, to wake from sleep, to power up. Never have a problem with it.... however

NOT Working
  1. MacBook Pro M1 with 16GB of Memory
  2. Anker PowerExpand 12-in-1 PD (Power Delivery) Media Dock
  3. HP 23" display (model 23cw)
I have to power cycle the Anker PowerExpand dock EVERY time I want to connect my MacBook to the external display. It's a hassle.

My M1 Macbook pro 16/2TB wouldn't sync to my LG 27GL650F-B with an USB-C to HDMI 2m cable - which works fine with my Samsung S20 Ultra and my Samsung Tab S6, I hoped it was just the length of 2m and that seems to be the problem - the Macbook Pro M1 won't sync up with a 2m HDMI cable.

The Hyperdrive 6-port Gen2 USB-C Hub works 100% - HDMI syncs up with the LG 1920x1080 @ 144hz with a 1m HDMI-HDMI cable - but it also won't sync with a straight 2m HDMI-HDMI cable.

I wanted portable USB-C Hub for size convenience, but I also need Ethernet and Digital Audio so I also ordered the recently released Hyperdrive Thunderbolt 16-port Hub, which comes with a DisplayPort instead of HDMI, so I am currently driving a 1m DisplayPort cable to my LG monitor @ 144hz.

BTW, the audio out of both hubs is amazing out of the 3.5mm port to my Beyerdynamic DT 770 16 ohm and DT 880 600 ohm, I'm surprised at the power output of the 16-port hub as well as the sub-bass and bass control - very dynamic. I'll hookup to my Topping D90 with Optical Toslink and Coax too, but for now the audio out of the Hyperdrive hubs is impressive and satisfying enough.

I was a little concerned about only 2 Thunderbolt ports on the M1 Macbook's, but I've come to learn that they are both full throughput Thunderbolt controllers, and the 4 port Thunderbolt Macbooks actually share 2 controllers anyway, like the 2 controllers in the M1. Using external port extenders we can double up and more on the Thunderbolt ports.

OWC Thunderbolt Hub for M1 Mac, Thunderbolt 3 equipped Mac, and Thunderbolt 4 PC (macsales.com)

Thunderbolt on the M1 Mac mini – When 2 Actually Does Equal 4 (macsales.com)

The Hyperdrive 16-port comes with a 180w power supply delivering power to the hub and the Macbook Pro M1, all through 1 Thunderbolt port on the Macbook, pretty cool.

The Ethernet is getting the full 940Mbit/42Mbit as bandwidth from the provider allows - we are getting heavy use in the suburbs due to the "work from home" quarantine measures, so I have to measure my maximum throughput during the slow times of the day, which isn't the daytime any longer.

I'm swapping the monitor back and forth between the Macbook M1 and a 3700x/2070 Super PC, and the Macbook is far more responsive - especially after moving from Wifi to Ethernet 1Gbit internet - and I'm gradually getting used to the MacOS again.

The Video image on the LG is much better from the Macbook M1 than the 2070 Super. The 2070 Super GPU is more powerful for gaming FPS, but for the games I've tried compatible for the MacOS on Steam + Stadia on the Macbook Pro M1, I'm quite pleased with the gaming performance.

It's real nice having the PC turned off - now enjoying a zero fan noise environment - with the Macbook Pro M1 :)

Oh yeah, I'm using a dual slot vertical dock that takes hardly any room on the desktop - and holds a Macbook Pro M1, Samsung S6 Tablet, and with adjustment a Kindle. Very handy to have the all those sorted out of the way. I am using MacOS Amphetamine to keep the external display running with the Macbook Pro M1 lid closed.

2 32" Acer monitors. Not 4k. Connected 1 via hdmi 1 usbc using display port adapter. Works just fine.
