Thanks, it was totally unexpected... but I was planning to retire by the end of the year, so it's not completely devastating...

Oh, OK, so then your retirement was advanced by 9 months or so, no? Anyway, then I hope you don't see this in a negative light and that all your plans come to fruition as you originally planned.

Congratulations on your retirement! Unexpected for March, but planned for 2016!

I've been on the lookout for a CPU upgrade for my Mac Pro. I have been trying to get one of the faster 6 Core CPUs (x5690/x5680/w3690/w3680 or similar) but there are none available locally, and the cost of them on eBay seems to keep going up. I haven't been able to justify the cost including shipping. We are moving offices at work which includes having a throw out of a lot of old stuff, and it just happens that one of these was being written off. Not quite what I wanted, but still 2 more cores at the same clock speed for $0 :)

Got this today from a client. He had written it off months ago as "useless" and upgraded to a brand new top of the line Air. It's an Early 2011 15" MacBook Pro, base model, 2.0GHz i7 and the 6490M, 4GB of RAM.

Took it home, threw a solid state in it, and it flies. Gonna need to dig for some spare RAM though, turns out all my spare sticks are 2GB. Maybe my 13" doesn't need 16GB...

For Sale?

Won these pair of Beats headphones for interacting on Twitter during a concert. Never would spend $379 on a pair of headphones, but now I see why they do. They sound great!

Just got this gem - Samsung SGH-A437

Gorgeous. I love the form factor of those old clam phones - and was the proud owner of one or two myself at one time.

Did you get that from the Smithsonian?

Mock all you like, but those who used these phones tended to love them.

Not sure that many of today's monsters could be said to inspire the same degree of devotion.

Meant to buy one of these when I ordered my iMac in late 2012. Kind of got buy without it, but as this was free it would be nice to burn the odd CD. View attachment 623234

Still use the superdrive I bought for my MBA, to watch DVDs, and rip/burn CDs.

I do sometimes connect my phone or an old iPod to the car stereo, but sometimes having a play list on a cd is more convenient.
Just need to order some blanks now as I've not had any round the house for a while.

Ah, yes.

Some blank CDRWs; on my own shopping list for tomorrow, along with organic stuff for the laundry….

Wow, why I have never seen this thread before! Anyway, latest thing I got for free in my long string of free macs and stuff is a lovely 24in acrylic Core 2 Duo iMac. It sadly has a dead GPU, but a friend said he could get me a replacement GPU for it with ease

Core duo Mac Mini. Hard drive failed. Thinking of putting a spare SSD in it but then I don't know what I would use it for.
Already have 2 PCs and a MBP.

great idea, i've found these things to be a major bitch to crack open and work your way to where the actual ram slots/hdd sit though

let us know how you fare

Already pulled the old drive and put it back together in about 30 minutes. I upgraded the RAM for the previous owner in the past. I'm a printer technician, these things don't scare me.

I have these exact headphones and find them great.. Not really sure why they get the rubbish reviews, then again I'm no audiophile!
The fact that they are wireless is the wining feature for me

A 2006 Mac Pro! The computer shop I used to work at called me a month or two ago to tell me that some guy had dropped off an old Mac Pro for recycling; it had been hit by lightning and none of the USB ports worked any longer. I picked it up, and one $30 USB card later, it was working like a champ. I set it up with an SSD, El Cap, and 32GB of RAM and gave it to my father who's been happily using a 2009 mini since 2009. In exchange, I got his mini; at the end of the day, I suppose I actually got a free Mac mini :p

This one was a while ago, but my wife's aunt told me that while she was moving, she came across an "old Mac G-something" that she didn't want any longer. She brings it by, and drops off a pristine 20" iMac G5 in the original box with all of the accessories!

Will wait for however long this takes, but I won this original Kid with the Golden Arms poster in a trivia contest last week. And the folks who own and are releasing Shaw Brothers content now meekly asked if it was okay that Golden Arms (Lo Meng) himself autographed it. Um, YES, it is okay. :p:):):) I found that so adorable and insanely sweet, especially since I am not at the Lo Meng meet & greet right now.
