love that game. Im a bit of a car simulation geek. Which others do you play?
As well as Assetto Corsa I've have rFactor 2, Project Cars, DiRT Rally and F1 2016 installed at the moment. After years of using a gamepad I recently purchased a Thrustmaster TMX Racing Wheel, my lap times have improved drastically. I don't seem to destroy tyres like I used to either. A sound investment!

What you playing, apart from AC ?

I pushed the GTX 1060 in a few other games over the weekend. Worth noting is that I have a Dell UltraSharp U3415W that runs at 3440 x 1440 pixels.

All of the above games I could max out the settings and it would sit about 60 FPS, so for my needs it certainly does the job. In Witcher 3 I can use the ultra settings and, if I turn off 'Hair Works', I can get it to run around 40-45 FPS. If I set the resolution of the screen to 1080 that magic 60 FPS is easily obtainable. So that's pretty reasonable. Guild Wars 2 is another matter, can barely scratch about 30 FPS, in cities, with the everything on max. Strangely setting the resolution in Guild Wars 2 to 1080p seems to actually reduce FPS. One issue I've seen with reducing the resolution, on both Witcher 3 and Guild Wars 2, is that the colours become very washed out, most noticeable is that the blacks become very grey. I could probably find a fix for it, but I don't play Guild Wars 2 that much anymore and the numbers in Witcher 3 are acceptable to me at 1440.

I remain on the fence on whether to keep the card or not. It is tempting to drop in a 1070 and see what that can do, however the ridiculously low power usage of the GTX 1060 has already begun to save me money, compared to the old electricity guzzling HD 7950, and I think that it might be wiser appreciate the smaller gains now and wait to see what the modular Mac Pro brings to the table in regard to PC Graphic Card support.

Decisions. Decisions.

To Keep this now over 10 year old thread going :) time for a more unusual mac
I managed to Bag this Xserve for £35 inc free shipping off of ebay! seller sold it as non working for parts as there was a dent in the DVD drive slot but he said it did power up... sent him a Best offer and after a couple counter offers we settled on £35, has to be one of my best ebay finds

as you can see it works perfectly, Powered right up once i had it unboxed, I have it dual booting between OS X Sever 10.6.8 and OS X El Capitan, it came to me with 2GB of ram and no Hard drives so i stuck in a spare 500GB Laptop drive and 16GB of RAM from one of my decommissioned Mac Pros.
for a 1U Sever its surprisingly quiet and runs and works quite nicely, im hoping to sort out a Graphics card upgrade for it so El Cap is not such a slide show... (for some Reason El Cap will panic at PCI configuration with most of the PC Graphics cards i throw at it... )

About This Mac from High Sierra beta 2 for your enjoyment. :)

Hard to believe my MacBook Pro was released 5 years ago now, still feels as fast as ever (and even supports Metal just fine).

Just completed and updated a fresh install of Snow Leopard on this Mid 2007 white MacBook. Upgraded from 1 GB to 2 GB with some RAM I had spare from my '06 iMac. Hard to believe how cheap these MacBooks are nowadays, can be had easily for under $80 (this one only cost me $35)...

I see the battery is not registering properly, I recommend you get some sort of battery installed as with no battery the CPU will be throttled back to its lowest multiplier and it will run quite slow (even if you use a 85W charger)

otherwise Nice find :) yeah they are getting quite cheap I have a Late 2006 BlackBook I got for free a couple years ago sadly about a year or so ago it lost an argument with a G3 beige and now needs a New LCD screen, (it also needs a battery)

Haven't updated in a while - here are my current desktop and laptop.

Just finished doing some upgrades to the iMac - got iFixIt's hard drive replacement kit and SSD upgrade kit, and made my own Fusion drive out of a 2 TB spinny drive and an 80 GB SSD. Also upgraded the WiFi to 802.11ac. Obviously have upgraded the RAM. Thought about upgrading the CPU to an i7, but for its main use, the i5 is sufficient. I have macOS Server installed on it, and am using Parallels Personal edition to run a couple more copies of macOS Sierra in VMs to be my server OSes.

Just got this bad boy a few months ago, and had graphics glitches with it (documented in other threads,) so I took it to Apple and convinced them to extended-repair-program fix it. In the process, they replaced the logic board, fans, top case, and display assembly. I plopped in an 802.11ac card, so the only original pieces are the SSD and the bottom case! (And now I'm thinking of getting a new bottom case, because it looks all beat up compared to the rest of the system now.) Obviously running the High Sierra beta on it. A little crashy, but usable.

High Sierra beta has been a little unstable on mine as well, probably thanks to the updated version of Metal and WindowServer's recode for it. So far, the latest beta seems to be holding up alright though.

Took the plunge with the beta yesterday - I haven't had any problems with it yet, but on the flip side there aren't a whole host of differences either. Mainly installed it just so I could see the full res HEIF/HEVC photos and videos taken on my iPhone.

There are still lingering bugs from Sierra, like the emoji viewer on the Touch Bar sometimes just refusing to load - maybe one day they'll be fixed...
