Does anyone out there notice or agree with the statement that "female cats don't like to be held" ??? Our female likes to cuddle, 'on her terms', if you quietly sitting she will curl up near you, but don't try and pick her up, like 'Baggie', you will have to have some blood replaced.
It all depends on the temperament of the cat, and how it was raised, cuddled and generally held and interacted with when it was young. Cases in point:
My cat (Misty, left) was worked with a lot when she was little, and will comfortably sit on someone's lap or in their arms unless she really doesn't want to (which is not often).
My parents' cats, Zack & Sophie (Zack's on the couch) did not get as much attention when they were little thanks to an older cat who had to be the center of attention... 3 years after the older cat died, they're just now getting to the point where they'll sit on a lap, but still will not acquiesce to being held at all.
